Adding OEM Integrated Brake Controller ?

newdude, I know about the toggle switch , i think the part number is 22822677,i want to know if the JL1 is already in the truck,i had a 2011 f-150 that didn't have the toggle switch in it when i bought it,I bought the switch and installed it (it was plug and play) ford service reflashed the computer and it worked fine,thats what I was hoping could happen or wish could happen with the 2014 chevy,thats why i want to know if I have the JL1 in the truck by giving the rep my vin. number

The code should be in the glovebox on a white sticker.

I beg to differ GM rep. IF your truck is ordered with JL1 Intergrated Trailer Brake Control, then it has the OEM Integrated Trailer Brake Control. Its an option on all trims and yes I have seen them.

 

The new trucks however, do NOT come with the under dash wiring harness that WAS a standard feature on 1999-2013 trucks, to install an aftermarket trailer brake controller.

I do apologize. I misspoke what I was trying to say. You are correct, if your vehicle is ordered with JL1 Integrated Trailer Brake Control than it has the OEM part. You cannot get the part after the vehicle is out of production.

Yes if you have the JL1 it will be listed on the spid label inside the glove box. If you ever need parts what I do is take a pic of that label when going to the dealer parts counter as it also has the vin number handy on it.

But I did. It can be done! I special ordered from GM the "Integrated Trailer Brake Control p/n 22822677" upon advice from my salesperson the day I purchased my truck. He said it was just "plug and play" and I'll be towing with no problem. Unknown to everyone at the time, but my truck does not have JL1, therefore the switch cannot be used. My dealership "cheerfully" returned my money (even though it is an electrical component)when more info came about.

There is a bracket above my spare tire on my Sierra that the JL1 ECU should be mounted. It's missing. Plus there is a large 20 plus pin connector from a major harness above to go into the ECU. It's not there. Therefore, my truck has no JL1.

I'm not sure I follow- if you have the JL1 RPO then you have the controller- there's nothing to add. On the 900 series I believe there were substantial differences so it's not something worth trying to retrofit. Find a truck with it or order one to your spec. I got lucky with my 2011 and found precisely the truck I wanted without the wait on a factory order. For something like a vehicle, I won't settle for anything other than exactly what I'm looking for.

You are right. No harness....no JL1......means an aftermarket controller to be installed. I'm still waiting for the Tekonsha aftermarket harness to be released. I've purchased a Tekonsha "P3" controller already.

That's OK Jennifer T. We all have the part number now. Keep the number for your records as well. Nobody said you are giving false info. I'm just passing info on from my own experiences and footwork on this matter so no one else

needs to spend time investigating.

There info on an issue that has come up on the other thread regarding 2014 GMC brake controllers. Seems an interim harness has been made and installed. It worked once and now there is a "communication" issue within the truck. Looks like the GMC Sierra will have to go in for a re-flash. Best to check the thread and monitor the outcome as I'll do.

I looked above the spare tire just a little towards the drivers side ,I have a bracket there with modules and bundles of wire is that for the brake lights ,turn sig. And what ever electrical things are there or is that maybe the JL1

      Different monitors do their test only under conditions specific to that monitor.  you MIGHT find the drive cycle conditions for the monitor that isn't ready on this site: https://lemon-manuals.la/   If it's not there, then it should be on alldata.com for your truck, but it requires a paid subscription.   And you need to know which specific monitor isn't ready.

      from another thread   Update...although the truck sometimes seems to idle weird and the transmission shift a little weird, I've driven about 7,000  miles and no issues.   However, the way GM has handled my rental reimbursement, the situation when my truck quit, and the recall in general has led me to this point...I have driven a GM vehicle for the past 46 years and unless I buy a C3 Corvette, this is the last GM vehicle I will ever own.

      There's some truth to the above, but also, she's selling fullsize trucks and bread/butter CUV's like hotcakes, meanwhile, extracting GM's pickups from the deep discounting sales game.   GM's stock has held its own during her tenure, and the more recent buybacks are delivering cash back to investors and signal confidence in their direction forward. Even with the EV losses.   GM is an example of a modern publicly traded company. The #1 goal of any publicly traded company is to deliver the most value possible to shareholders. Despite being a car company, building the best car isn't GM's path to delivering maximum shareholder value.   McDonalds doesn't make the best burger, or the best coffee.   I've mentioned in another thread, I really don't / won't ever understand Cadillac or Buick in a modern context. Both brands are completely dead to me. I'll cede that the Escalade is a nice SUV, but the brand and nameplate mean nothing to me, and GM will never persuade me to pay north of $170k for a gussied-up Tahoe or Burb. Other people don't mind doing that and that's their purview.   The C8 shares absolutely nothing in common with any other current Chevrolet or Corvette on the market. Since its introduction 8 years ago, it's developed quite the following. It did what other Corvettes couldn't do: reduce the average age of its buyer. GM has something there, and I see them investing in the car. They'd better not mess that up.   We've successfully derailed Grumpy's thread again, but I think this one is meant to be more of a random thought thread so a little wandering is probably OK.

      Sliding doors ftw   Also, Sienna ftw as well.  The in-laws got a 2024-2025 recently when their 2019 sienna was totaled due to a deer back in June.  They've been getting 38-40mpg on the 65mph highway they live on.
