Goodyear Duratrac MPG an issue?

I have been hearing that installing Duratracs, even OEM size ones, puts the fuel mileage in the toilet.

Can anyone confirm this?

I am leaning towards this tire but I am concerned it is a real MPG killer.

Thanks.

I am guessing that the softer the compound of the rubber, the more energy it takes to move the truck. Soft tires flex, and flexing tires takes energy away from putting power to the road.

Is the Duratrac a full out mud tire, or an all terrain?

I was looking at it myself,Its a pretty aggressive looking tread its called a AT but it looks more like its made to handle the Mudd dogs.I was first going for looks agrresive tire look, leveling kit, larger tire.....then my sensible side kicked back in,then I thought why am I doing this again? For looks? I had to stick with being practical since this is my daily driver and need the most MPG out of my rig.

It's kind of in between I'd say.

IMG_6253-Version-2.jpgKind of like the Cooper ST Maxx, both are in between, Knobbier than an AT but not quite a mudgrip. But my tires are just AT's, and people have asked why I needed "mudgrips"

They're a heavy, soft tire so yeah it will harm MPG and they won't last as long as some others too from what I've heard.

I thought they were one of the lighter tires around for how aggressive it is? I think the Toyo ATII's are even heavier than Duratracs aren't they?

Soft, loud and shitty traction on almost any surface. 2 sets was a shame on me.... never again.

What tire you using now?

Varies. Just not Duratracs. I have better traction with straight regular all terrains in mud then those things. Mall crawlers like them because they look cool lol. Most guys I work with had them put on because they think they will be awesome on muddy lease roads.... then pull them off and have normal all terrains again lol.

Even regular silent armors work better then the Duratracs. They are still soft and wear fast but have okay traction and are quiet. Silent Armours are discontinued so they don't matter anyway and what replaced them looks less than satisfactory. Might go Hankook again this time around on the work truck. My other 2 are pavement only princesses so I really don't care what I run on them.

i got duratrac on mine, stock size 6ply

i didnt see any difference in mpg and they work good off road, don't forget those are not mud tire they are allterrain tire so yes they will not work in mud like a real mud tire like the km2

not noisy at all on the road the stock crapy tire that came on the truck was worst i think it was the wrangler ats

I've been running duratracs for 3 years now. I love them on my truck. My mileage dipped a little bit, however the tires I had before were street tires and also smaller in size. I went from 265 70 16 to 265 75 16. Also I live in Alaska so I would rather lose some mileage and gain traction. Also with the cold weather gas mileage isn't that great anyways if you are only doing in town driving in the winter. For my purposes I have been very happy, so you need to ask yourself what you are wanting to achieve with your tire selection.
