Sirius XM Pricing?

My free trial period just ran out for the Sirius XM radio. I had read on quite a few forums that just before your trial ends you'd get a call from Sirius and during that call you could easily negotiate monthly rates in the $6.00 range. Well I got no phone calls but received a letter last week with a price list. Their monthly rate is $14.49 and the only discounts come from paying for a year to 3 years in advance. I really enjoy the Sirius XM stations but I put maybe 500 miles a month on my truck and cannot justify the almost $15/mo. rate. Has anyone had any experience negotiating a better rate and could you explain how or give examples? Thanks in advance.

Stick it out without it for about a month and they will be calling you about once a week begging you to come back with great deals. OnStar did the same to me as well when my 6 month trial period was over. The full package that was supposed to cost me $34 or something per month could be given to me for $14.99 if I stuck with them.

Yep they are persistent. I have offers for $25/6 months with free activation and various other offers.

That's how I do it. One word of caution, Make sure they delete all your Credit card information and require them to contact you for renewal. If you don't or life get's in the way and you forget. They will bend you over hard!

I've learned that pretty much all the info on this forum and others is correct. When I got my used truck I had to call and request service. Problem with that is they know you want it, so less apt to drop price because you are probably willing to pay more than someone who is just coming off a free trial. I managed $100/12mo. (introductory price) to start. When renewal came in at $180 I was like HECK NO and told XM if it's anything more than $100 I'm cancelling. So I was given a brief run-around and then told that since I am a "long-term valued customer" (yeah, 1 year LOL) I could keep my $100 rate. That was fine with me. Power to those people who go for even less than that.

Just renewed mine last week. Got them down to 5 months for $27 and some change. I told the guy it was only worth about 5 bucks a month to me...and if they couldn't get close to that, I was just going to cancel it. But, like others have said, make sure you watch the calendar, because they'll auto renew it at the regular price if you're not careful.

Canceled the service. They dropped WSIX which even though it had commercials was better than any of XM's country stations and they also dropped the channel that carried Coast to Coast AM. Took like 30 minutes of dealing with someone who barely spoke English who kept making offer after offer to get me to stay. I wasn't even listening, I just wanted them gone.

Agreed about WSIX. It is available on iheart radio. I use the AUX to pump it through my radio.

Thanks for all the feedback. How do you guys keep them from getting a CC number? Are you insisting on being mailed a bill and then paying by check?

Not too sure but does xm offer a csrd you can buy at like best buy that you can pay cash for a year and give XM that card number? Basically like a prepaid phone card or buying credit for the store on xbox live.

If they ever do get a credit card # from you they are almost impossible to cancel. Even if you go through the 30+ minute retention mess and are told they will turn it off, it doesn't happen. A few years back it took me four calls before they FINALLY flipped off the switch.. Now I have a bill sent and pay with a money order. I don't want them even having my routing & account numbers from a personal check. Their customer service has to be the worst of any company I've ever dealt with. Also when you get the auto renewal bill you can easily call and they throw the offers your way because they don't have any way of getting any more money from you unless you consent. Give them as little personal info as possible!

How do you guys live without "Howard Stern" & the "Gay and Lesbian" channel? (LOL) :)

I kinda liked Opie and Anthony but the good bits seemed far and in between a couple guys who seemed to just like swearing on the radio. It doesn't offend me at all but it does come off as childish.

My free trial died off and I really had not intention of renewing it. XM/Sirius kept sending me emails and snail mail stuff. They offered a year at half price, so I did it. I hardly ever use the satellite radio stuff. Even in my semi truck, I gave up on satellite years ago. I just use the iHeart radio app on my iPhone and plug it into the AUX jack on the stereo like others and listen to a lot of stuff I like that XM doesn't even offer. I only renewed the XM thing on the pickup for the wife. She likes the Elvis channel.
