I got mine extended from the 3year/36K miles to cover 5year/100K miles for $225. They started at 800$ I settled at 225$

I got the 7 year 90k with 0 deductible along with the 5 year wheel and tire package. With family discounts it was 1341. Damn good deal considering some of the things I've been reading. Love this truck:)

Extended warranty was a god send form me once. While GM says their warrant is 100K on the drive train have you researched what it excludes? I lost a flywheel once and guess what it was not covered under the powertrain warranty the extended picked up the bill to a tune of 3100 after the dealer saw where the failure caused the pump in the tranny to crack. They replaced the entire tranny, torque converter and flywheel - my cost 0 the warranty cost me 800 and change so I made out real well.

I've had several friends over the years who sold cars at various dealerships. None of them said they would ever consider an extended warranty.

 

I have never purchased one & the only real expenses I've ever incurred were to replace a catalytic converter on my wife's Cadillac when a coil went out just before 100,000 miles. She was out of town on a weekend & drove it home that way. They covered the coil but not the converter that was ruined as a result. That part was only covered under the 3 yr/36K mile bumper to bumper. If she hadn't driven it about 150 miles home, that wouldn't gone bad.

I called around and the GM (three different plans and different deductible amounts) were very expensive. They wanted (started) $1,800 plus. They also cover additional items such as car rental, hotel stay, road service etc. Why purchase this when you have a three year warranty and if you still keep the vehicle after three years, that might be a time to consider it. Suppose you total out the vehicle before three years. I figured the money they want for the warranty would cover me after the three years. If it is more, maybe it will be a time to trade it in. I usually take good care of my vehicle (do all the maintenance etc.) but I am not sure on all the electrical items and on board computers issues as the vehicle gets older. Maybe keep the truck three to five years (unless it is without any issues and keep it longer) and trade it in. This way you get a better trade in value with less costs for warranties and major repairs bills. Unless you get a true lemon (which should show up in the first three years) usually you shouldn't have any major issues after the three year warranty if you properly take care of your vehicle. Under these circumstances, the odds are in your favor but there is no 100% guarantee even if you get the extended warranty as noted in previous posts.

While I have not investigated the official GM Extended Warranty (it was not even discussed when I bought my Silverado), I did buy an official Subaru 7yr/100k/$0 warranty and here is the way theirs works. The 7 year period begins on the day you buy the vehicle so in essence it runs concurrently with the standard 3yr/36k bumper to bumper warranty for the first 3 years but you do get some pluses like better tire warranty, longer towing distance, motel and meal reimbursement, etc . You can wait until the day before your 3yr/36k warranty runs out to buy the official extended warranty - but you you still only get an additional 4 years on top of the original 3yr/36k. The price you pay is completely negotiable. Say you find that a Subaru dealer in another state will sell the official Subaru ext. warranty for $800 less that *YOUR* dealer charges - then you can buy the warranty over the phone with the other dealer or take the info from the other dealer to your dealer and probably get the lower price from your dealer. It does not matter where you buy the 'official' warranty as a Subaru official ext warranty is a Subaru official ext warranty. So shop for the best price - maybe start a topic on this forum listing dealers that are willing to offer an official GM warranty for a good deal (low price). Then anyone can contact that dealer and buy from them.

I was told by my salesman that i could buy it up until 3yr 36,000 miles because up until then its is considered new as far as the warranty. . Never heard that before but usually they are trying to push the warranty.

I got a extra 36 months, bumper to bumper, $100 deductible after the 1st 36 months. GM warranty for just under $1200.

I do keep my vehicles for a while, and maybe it's just my bad luck, but I've never not had a extended warranty pay for itself - so I'm pretty sure I'm going to get something.

 

For my new truck, my local dealer has been pushing CNA which is one of the "Top Rated" companies on the attached list.

 

I wondering what experience others may have had with CNA or any other extended warranty companies.
