Can someone explain the reason for such a big difference in the light patterns? If the stock pattern could be replicated with the LED bulbs life would be that much more easier.

Stock bulb = single filament = single point light source aligned to lens focal point = single forward beam of light

VLED bulb = 15 individual LEDs = 15 individual light sources, with many oustide ideal focal point position = light scattered randomly, similar to a flood light.

 

It's unavoidable b/c of the limitations of the 921 bulb size.

***one thing I forgot to mention about the 5202 VLEDs: the rubber O-rings (orange) on mine were a hair too thick and prevented my bulbs from snapping in all the way. They seemed to be in, but if you gave a little tug, they'd pop out. Luckily I had smaller O-rings left over from HID kit that I swapped out & it fit like a champ.

 

So, after installing, pull on them slightly & if they pop out, change the O-rings! If you don't have any alt O-rings, you can just remove them & then use some type of butyl rubber or silicone to deal around bulb after it's installed.

Would like to swap to LED fogs; I guess I'm debating whether the "scattered light" pattern is really a concern of mine. I have rarely used the fog lights....hhmm... #MotoMedicDoingItBig!

Switching to LED fog bulbs is more about looks (white light versus yellow) than function. If you want your fogs to put out substantially more light, you have two main options:

 

a) Swap stock bulbs for HIDs (post #363 http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/152762-stock-hir-to-hid-headlight-conversion/page-25?do=findComment&comment=1392326) .

b) Retrofit aftermarket LED lights, like Bbowen did on page 3 of this topic (post #33 http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/156170-led-fog-lights/?p=1389305).

 

However, both options will blind the hell out of other drivers on public roads, so please use either responsibly.

I replaced mine with the regular Yellow bulbs since my HID is already Lit up the road even in the foggy condition...

has any aftermarket company come out with a direct LED replacement (housing and everything) yet for our trucks? I have LED bulbs, but I remember Rigid having a direct replacement "almost done" for our trucks. Looking for a direct replacement for the factory fog lights that is much much brighter. Running VLEDs now, wanting more lol

All I know is that now with my 5202 VLED fog lights I get called for my brights 2-3 times an hour FYI......to which i remember I have them on then turn them off, then turn them back on when no one is coming.......

These V-led fogs are not very bright.. I've had them installed for about a week and can't even tell a difference in lighting when the HID's are on. I'm going to fab up a bracket for a set of D2 Rigid lights hopefully today.. I will be selling off the Vled fogs if anyone is interested I'm them. Not knocking them.. But they are just not for me and the light I need at times.

I think the VLEDS are brighter than stock. The problem is the light is all over the place... not focused like the factory bulbs. If you don't adjust your fog lights down some.. you would get "flashed" a bunch I would guess.

Can someone tell me in layman's terms the difference is see in these two as Offroad fogs:

VLEDs function like a flood light versus stock which act more like a flash light. Scroll back a page & you'll see the comparison pics I posted.

 

Rigid's kit, when it comes out, will be the same as Bbowen's custom job (square D2's with adapter plate). Eventually, Vision X will also have a kit, but no telling how far away that'll be and it's unknown if they'll be round or square lights.

Also.... Does any manufacturer make a bright (higher lumen) yellow (true fog color) led bulb to plug in play in Our factory fog lights? Running 5000k white 5202 VLEDS, looking for something a little different....
