LED Fog Bulbs & Lights

I'd like some thoughts and options from others on adding some LED "flare" to my rig. I want OEM look; thinking perhaps some LED 2" squares up front in the grill and maybe 2 out back tucked under the tailgate but above the bumper.

So does rigid actually sell a kit for the Sierra fog, or is it a mod some of you have done? Sorry. Struggling through the thread as I was reading some early adopter mods that I wasn't sure were kits or home built when talking of rigid.

i just received my kit from that guy, they are NOT made by rigid, he makes them. the pieces are laser cut and bent then painted, came with all hardware.. look very good, will probably install them tomorrow. ill try and post some pics when i do

I'd like some led pods and a bar

Send me what you want from the website. Email me.

I have 2 other emails. I'm going to give others time to figure out what they want and I will get it all together and send him the list. He will have a price sheet to me either Monday or Tuesday.

How much cutting do you have to do to the factory fog locations for this kit? I am going to order this kit and what to know what Im going to be up against. Thanks!

you have to first remove the lamp itself from behind(3 push tab type things), then pull the ring out. next you have to cut the semi cup looking part that the lamp attaches to leaving just a circle hole. then drill the 4 corner holes and bolt it up! its pretty easy just tricky putting the small nuts on the bolts behind the bumper. i managed to do it with out pulling the fender liners.

Not sure I agree with that logic. The LED fog bulbs together should only be drawing 1 or 2 amps.

Portsider - check the terminals on both the bulbs and the stock harness. Sounds like maybe the + and - are accidentally in contact..?

Does the fuse pop if you put the stock bulbs back in? If so, the internal wiring inside bulb might have a short. I'd call VLEDs and have them send you a new set of bulbs.

Thanks. I had a chance to work on these this morning and found that one of the bulbs is bad. Contacting V-LEDs for a replacement set.

I just got my kit in today and will be installing this weekend. Did you wire your lights to the factory wiring or did you put in a relay. Looks like the Rigid D2s draw 5 amps total, not sure what the factory Fog circuit is rated for though.

Thanks

5 amps is nothing. Factory fogs are wired with 16 or 18 gauge and I'd bet the fuse is 20 amp at the minimum.

Chart attached shows safe gauges/lengths per amps.

So I'm hoping you can provide me a little more insight in the install. Am I correct in saying that the factory fog plastic trim gets sandwiched between the 2 pieces of metal trim in the kit? Also, do I need to install the LED pods to the metal trims before installing the trims onto the truck or am I able too after I install the new metal housings? Thanks in advance, trying to avoid a cluster when I install tomorrow Afternoon.

yes i wired them into the factory fog light plugs, i made 2 crimp on pins and pushed them into the factory plug so i didn't have to mess with the factory harness.

And yes the 2 metal brackets sandwich the remaining housing plastic, once you pull the ring out i just cut between the openings around the cup, you'll see what i mean when you get it apart, i also had to trim a small plastic tab on the backside so the plate will sit flush. there's also another plastic bracket type thing that was only on the passenger side that i had to trim so the light would clear it.

When i did mine i assembled the pod to the bracket then put it together, i will say it was a bit of a bitch doing it that way as its hard the reach around and such. i would maybe try putting the brackets in then try to put the pod in...just wasn't sure if there was enough room for assembly behind there..

FYI - Anyone considering installing 9006/9012 HID headlight bulbs and 5202 LED fog light bulbs....

I discovered this past weekend that 5000K HID doesn't exactly match 5000K LED. The 5000K LED are slightly whiter and, when side by side, make the HID's appear slightly more blue.

If my LED headlight replacement project falls through, I'm going to try switching my HID bulbs to 4500K, so they'll better match my 5202 VLED fogs & factory LED strips.

Moto, now that I installed the HID kit the yellow fogs are horrible. Going to order the 5202 LED fog light bulbs until I saw your comment. Is there another option on the LED bulbs to better match the HID headlights?

Rigid makes a a kit that isn't released yet but its the whole plastic pod replacement, no cutting or anything required. just pop the stock pod out and replace and wire the LED's.

    • Missing pieces of the Assembly   Detergency vs Solvency   Not the same thing. Detergency is the mechanism that surrounds solid particulates preventing amalgamation. Usually accompanied by a Dispersant whose job it is to keep those encapsulated particles in Suspension. Solvency keeps things that can be dissolved in solution.    Salt is a solid that can be dissolved. Pepper is a solid that cannot be dissolved. A detergent/dispersant is effective on pepper but a solvent is more effective on salt. As long as the solids remain in either state, dissolved or dispersed then they can be be removed with the oil upon change.    How many wranglers does it take to herd cats? Depends on how many cats your herding. How much sponge does it take to soak up water? How much water is there to soak up? Point is most oil blends start with some herding ability and next to zero sponge and recently even fewer wranglers are being sent to do the same job.    So you start with a dozen cowboys and zero cows but at the drive progresses you pick up cows along the way, but not cowboys. At some point you have more cows that the wranglers can handle and some leave the herd. Deposits. And the API has an acceptable number of cows they are willing to let loose. In the ideal world zero is the right number for he rancher but to the butcher....a few lost is fine. This cow is beat to death. Let's move on....   Solvency isn't something oils on the Walmart shelf care about AT ALL. Problem is, you motor does. Fuels driven varnish sticks rings and only a solvent can keep them in check. The bet is that the solids driven portion that plug the expander rings and the oil drain backs and VVT screens and AFM screens will be an issue long before varnish is. Not that it wont be but if they market well enough the consumer can be kept ignorant enough to either believe it is "normal" (A quart in 1 or 2K is normal) OR is kept at bay longer than the first owner is likely to hang on to the unit. Solvency cost money.    Now the OEM's have John Q. Public buffaloed into the belief that the number cows accumulated along the trail is a known and predictable CONSTANT. It isn't. Nor is the rate at which they crossed paths with them. Only the number of wrangles is constant. Or was. Each new generation of oil sees fewer and fewer of them.    So what happens when the number of cowboys is lower (lower TBN) with each seasons trail but the trial is longer (OCI) and the number of cows along that trail continues increase? (Conditions that promote deposits).    For awhile the blenders were on to something. Better bases are harder to degrade (fewer cows) but that was overtaken by a longer trail (OCI) and improved breeding (More cows) while continuing to reduce the cowboy staffing levels (TBN/Aniline #).    Marketing has been successful. We've fired most of the staff, cows breed line bunnies, the trail is ten times longer and we've convinced the boss his ranch is in better shape that it ever was.    That kids is just the cleaning side. The side few pay attention to.

    • Looking for this part for my truck. They don't sell just that one piece and to get it you have to pay over $100 even used for the whole air tube. The piece the hose clamp snaps into that is held on by the screw and nut. If anyone has access to one please let me know.
