I RainX all my windows and mirrors every 6 months or so. I use the RainX reservoir solution to keep my windshield clean and it also retreats the front glass. I rarely even have to use my wipers when it rains.

The secret to clear windows is "No Touch Auto Glass Stripper" from Napa stores.

 

Rain X works great on windshields because the wind is blowing off the water. I have used it over 30 years. Rain X causes the water to bead up on all the other windows, especially if not recently cleaned. Since I am 50 now, driving at night in the rain is more difficult with glare from other vehicles and a$$holes with their fog lights on in traffic. ( I got glasses about 2 years ago to help my vision, but I wear them 1/2 the time, so I am not that old or blind.) Light is refracted by all the beads, making it harder to see thru the glass and glare.

 

The Stripper will clean the glass and even remove Rain X, carwash wax, and hardwater spots. It allows the water to sheet off and not bead up. Sounds backwards, but it works. It is like using a claybar on your paint to clean it. Sounds weird, but it works. Mothers makes a glass stripper also. It is not as aggressive, but is easier to use. I use a 6 in buffer to apply as the No Touch is like a liquid polishing compound. Rinsing alone will not remove the residue as they say, so I usually wash the vehicle after treatment. Clean your windshield with it & a new Rain X or Aquapel treatment works even better.

 

Not sure? clean a side or back window. Strip half properly & just use glass cleaner & treatment on other half. Drive in the rain at night & the sheeting side will be easier to see thru.

A car dealer friend had a car with really bad water spots and the No Touch cleaned them all off. He does all his vehicles now with this stuff.

Rain-Ex IMO is a waste of money. Creates a film wherein you can never truly clean your glass. The chemical properties were originally engineered for plexiglas and use on aircraft.

I put Adam's Glass Sealant on all my windows. Rained the next day, I didn't even touch my wipers. Back window was spotless as well.
