I thought it was 5 years regardless of subscription or not....

It is, but you have to download the app and use it once during your subscription period. I was talking about having to replace a phone and downloading the app again once your subscription expired. Wondering if it would still work or was the 5-year period only for the original app.

Anybody know the answer to this? You download the app on your smart phone or tablet (or both) and use them during the time you have an On-Star subscription and you can use them for five years for lock/unlock/horn/remote start. But what happens if you get a new phone and have to download an app for it, or somehow your app gets corrupted and you have to download it again after your subscription service. Will the new app still work?

It is five years that is a screen shot from my phone I went through the EULA to find it. Says you can call Onstar to find out how much time you have remaining on the remote start feature as well.

It is no longer active. But while we were in the trial period we did have the app setup. We assumed it expired after the trial was up so never tried it after that. I'm hoping there is just something wrong the the acct on their end. We shall see......

So getting back to my original question before it was jacked to talk about the onstar app comments, does anyone know if you can program another fob to work on our trucks?

PS - I think the app is useful but a pain in the ass. If I have a fob on my keys, I should be able to use it.

If it is a GM fob or an aftermarket one for a GM I would see if it would allow you to add it. Directions are in the manual.

I'd like to use a key like the equinox or terrain has. My Dad has a Terrain, next time I see him I'll check out his key and see what the differences are. I just got a 2014 Mazda 6 for the wife which has a push button start, this is very nice I never have to the key out of my pocket or off my belt loop to use the car, wish my sierra had that too!

I also wouldn't mind a smaller key fob on this, don't care about the key fliping in/out but a 3 button transmitter instead of the 5 button one with 2 unused buttons would be nice to cut down on crap in the pocket

So good news for us, bad news for my wife lol. Called on star and they stated that on 2014 vehicles can use the app for 5 years without the subscription. Older vehicles do not apply to this rule and require an active subscription.

Imcrazy - somewhere I read that the key like the Terrain has wouldn't clear the column shifter. Not sure if that is correct or not.

coryw is correct, the switch blade keyfobs that some GM cars use will not work with these trucks as the bulk of it will make contact with the collumn shifter. Can't remember the distance from the factory key and the shifter in Drive but the distance from the ignition and shifter on these trucks from years past has been close enough to not allow for a larger key/keyfob combo.

Only real way to get a better range and functionality of your keyfob is aftermarket and the keyfobs are all roughly the same size.

I realize its a bit different since I have a subscription but every time I've gotten a new phone I just use my username and password and it's good to go.
