Will Level or Lift Void Warranty?

I stoped by my local GMC dealership today the same one I purchased the vehicle from and asked them about how much they would charge to put on my RC level lift and do a realignment. Both of the service advisers then tell me if I put the level lift on my truck it voids the warranty. With that being said they have two new 2014 Sierras sitting on the lot with the same RC 2" level on them on with 285/65/R20 tires that they say don't rub. When I asked them about the warranty on the two trucks on the lot they just said it will void you warranty. Now in the same town at the Chevrolet dealership they have three Silverdos with the RC 2" level and one with a 6" full lift. My question is has anyone else heard of this or is my service techs feeding me a line crap?

What is it voiding? Entire power train? Bumper to bumper? Ask them of they know the law

I could not get a straight answer on what warranty it voided. But if it voids the warranty then why do they have it on two of there trucks the are selling as new. I may call GM and see if they can answer this.

It will just void anything that is directly related to the lift, since you are raising and changing the angles on the vehicle. Probably ball joints wouldn't be covered if they fail in the warranty period or CV axle because of the increased angle and so forth. Wheel bearings might if going up in tire size because of the added weight. It won't void engine, transmission, most of your bumper to bumper, ect... Then again I don't have experience trying to get warranty work done on an vehicle with aftermarket mods, this is just what I have heard/seen when searching and reading up on laws and issues.

X2 Only affected components. Also, one way around it can be to have the dealer install the level. I did and my warranty issue (tire wear because they didn't align it) was "taken care of"

That is just plain incorrect. Doesn't void the warranty and as others have mentioed to "void" a particular warranty the device/product has to be determined to have caused the failure of a particular part on the vehicle, thereby voiding the warranty.

 

For example, if it were a custom tune, the tune would have to be positively proven to have caused the failure of a waranteed part for the warranty to be voided.

I would think anything in the suspension system could be voided or warranty claim denied along with some of your powertrain (front diff, front half shafts, transfer case, driveshaft, rear diff) with that lift.

Ok just talked to someone at another dealership and he told me that any alteration to the stock components can void the warranty for any surrounding or affected parts. That if their was an issue down the road with the front end that could be a result of the after market lift then the warranty would not cover the parts or repairs. I asked if they had any on the lot with the RC level/lift and he said yes and it was a chance that they the dealership was taking on warranty issues.

Thanks for all the posts. Just got a little crazy when they told me if you do something it voids the warranty with no explanation of what warranty it voids other than it voids the warranty. I mean this is a fifty thousand dollar truck not no hunting camp special I have one of those and trust me I thankful every time it cranks!lol

I'm not sure I'm buying this about the tune. Recalibrating an ECU is quite different than installing a spacer below a shock.

 

As others have said, the parts have to have contributed to the failure. If the modifications or repairs contributed at all, you're in for a messy fight.

It doesn't matter what it is (tune, new gears in rear end, lift, level, etc.).

It has to be proven that the upgrade in question directly contributed to the failure of a warranted part for the warranty to be voided.

It won't void your entire warranty but there's a laundry list of parts that they could link to the lift causing issues with and void warranty on those parts, including the transmission I would think if it were an extreme lift, driveshaft, cv, ball joints, control arms, steering rack, differential, and its not like a lift COULDN'T hurt those parts, it could, but you wanna play you gotta roll the dice.
