So is it possible to remove this piece? A friend helped me with removing the old one. All the videos were like "this is so easy just stick a screwdriver behind the cover and it pops off", but that did not happen for me. I must have been trying the wrong spot or something. Anyway, he ended up with the idea to just cut this so now it is cut ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . Regardless, do you all think that this would help a little in allowing the new cover to sit closer to the pillar?

No need to remove it but I'm sure it can be done. I disconnected my retaining lanyard from the A pillar cover, did not cut mine. I just tucked it out of the way and the new grab handle equipped cover went right in with no problems.

I wanted to do this, tuck it away I mean. But if that is not the problem area for why my new cover is not seating properly, wonder what is.

Sorry for the somewhat bad angle on the image. That is the gap I am currently getting. Something I am doing wrong, because it looks to me that the original and the new ones are molded to the same shape on that top end.

Have you pulled it back off? If you have is the plastic tab bent or mangled? If it is, then it's not going into the slot it fits into properly. If that plastic tab is still straight and not all mangled up then it is going in and I don't know why you're getting that gap.

Yeah I pulled it back off. I'll go take a picture of the tabs or look at them to see if they are obviously bent out of place.

Yeah, just line it up and see where that tab fits into and you may have to move a line or something else, I think the tab is not seating into the slot it's supposed to fit into.

Thanks. I think I might end up cutting more off of those “tails” if you will because the one covers the hole partially. It’s already cut so it’s not like I can reinstall it anyway. Plus I don’t want to reinstall. I like the handle.

Did the metal clip come off with the old cover? If not it may still be there and not letting the wide tab go back in properly...

I attached a picture from my phone of the old one. Hopefully it shows and I don’t have to go back to my computer to send it.

No, you're good...the metal clips came off, you should be good if the slots are not blocked, since you already cut the "tails" cut them the rest of the way off and get them out of the way.

Ok thanks a lot. I’ll give it a try and hopefully it works this time.

I couldn’t get mine to line up perfectly up there either. No matter what I tried. I’ll one up you too. I can get mine off to even try again! I somehow managed to strip the top bolt so it just spins. Won’t go any tighter and won’t come out. I obviously cranked it down too hard even though I don’t recall doing so. I’m usually pretty good with that sort of thing and if anything I usually don’t tighten enough. That top bolt is in there though and the bottom bolt is perfect. The handle is nice and tight so at least I got that going for me.

What I did since I can’t take it off and that little gap will drive me nuts is I heated it with a hair dryer and shaped it a little better. Didn’t take much and it helped.

So, anyone want me to work on their truck? [emoji6]

Hmm so I am hearing that you’ll make a mistake on my truck, but you’re good at engineering a fix? ?? just poking fun
