Correct. They offer two kits, one for the steel control arms and one for the aluminum. I have the aluminum control arms and ordered the kit for the aluminum control arms. i tripled checked before placing my order.

I only see one part number on their website and no reference to steel or aluminum. Where are you seeing they offer different kits?

when you go to order the kit enter your year make and model. then it will show you two pictures. one of the level kit and one of the 2.5 lift kit. click the level kit. then it will take you to another page. once your on that page right above the "ADD TO CAR" button and right below the price. it has a drop down box that says "Factory control arms" and then you have to choose 1) steel. 2) aluminum

Crazy, I installed my bolts down through. I remember it took a little wiggling but it went in without removing cv axle

honestly I thought about it but I saw the CV axle and I didn't even try. maybe if I would had done some wiggling I could have gotten it in their. but the instructions specifically say to install the way I did with the head of the bolt under the control arm.

Thanks. I didn't see it because I got the 2.5" kit. There's no choice for that, but now I'm wondering why not? I thought the two kits used the same lower shock spacer so if it matters for one it should matter for the other. But for the 2.5" kit I can't find any mention of control arms on the site or in the instructions. Weird.

I guess I'll just have to see if it fits!

I have the rough country 2" level and had to use shims on the side where the cv axle is. I have aluminum control arms so I ordered the kit for aluminum not steel. My buddy who owns a truck stop helped me put the kit own. We did not remove the stock clips from the shocks. He has been in business for 20 years and has been installing these kits since 2008. He said when he first started putting these kits on he removed the clips and used the nuts that came with the clip but after having a few of the nuts and bolts loosen over time he just started using the stock clips and since then has not had one problem. But to make a long story short I had to shim the back bolts to keep them from hitting the cv axle.

by shims do you mean the washers that came in the kit? mine came with 8 washers. one on the head side of the bolt and the other on the nut side of the bolt for each bolt... I guess I could have used those as shims but like I said I followed the instructions step by step pretty much, as I wanted to make sure that everything was exactly the way it was intended to be.

Do you have the z71. Wondering if it is different. I installed a 2" kit which basically looks the same as the rough country. Stock absolutely rub cv axle on mine. They looked like they barely cleared when I installed and took for allignment, but they are rubbing a little bit and now I have to go take it all apart again and figure out how to work out some way to attach the bolts without anything rubbing the cv axle. Anybody got any ideas?

Yes mine is a Z71. I have seen the rough country kits installed several ways. You can use the stock shock bolt clips and put washers on the bolt and mount the the level kit the way the bolts were pointing up in the stock position or you can use the nuts, washers, and bolts that come with the kit and put the bolts through the top pointing down to the ground. I used the bolts and washers that came with my kit and used the stock clips that were attached to the shock I did have to use the washers as shims on the back bolt and i have around 1/2" clearance from the cv axle.

I used the stock tabs on the rear under the cv axke because they looked a tiny bit shorter than the washer and locknut I received in kit. I have only about 1/8 clearance with wheeks straight, but I am rubbing other times...I can see the wear line on the axle.

How would you even get the bolts down through the top? I am going to see if I can get a shorter lock nut on top and shim bolt from bottom, otherwise I have to take it all apart again and try to slide bolts down through top somehow.

I did the same, no cutting either

Z71 4x4 with aluminum

I have steel lower control arms. I guess that makes a difference. Anybody have steel, or are most aluminum?

And why are mine steel if other z71s have aluminum?
