robvas Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Those bolts are to short... You are not utilizing the lock not and will more than likely experience issue with a nut coming loose. At minimum I would put red loctite on them to avoid issue. A good rule of thumb is no less than 3 bolt threads showing past nut. They aren't tightened - I wanted to take a picture to share on the site. If the bolts were tightened the bolt would have went right into the axle/cv shaft.
gmtech117 Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Put the bolts in the other way! You guys are scaring me lol. If your alls issue is that you can't slide the bolt in because the cv axle is in the way then take the 6 15mm bolts out of the axles and push them out of the way in order to slide the bolts down. I would like more thread past the nut and then there's no chance at all that it's gonna come in contct with the axle

Chevrojayy97 Posted September 17, 2017 Posted September 17, 2017 The shop that installed mine had never done a Leveling Kit before, but I wanted it done in a hurry so I took a chance on it. Thankfully the tech was an off-road guy and had done many of them, but I'll never make that mistake again. They had to end up cutting the bolts on mine because of the same CV issue you were having.

With the upper ball joint and steering linkage ball joint disconnected I was able to tilt the hub assembly enough to get the CV shaft out of the way and then put the bolts in with the head on the top side and nuts on the bottom. Here are some pics. I know this is an old thread but I am trying to install the 2” leveling kit to my 2014 Silverado and I am running into the same problem on the cv axle being in the way of the rear bolt. Cannot put it in from the top and the bolt is too long to go from the bottom as it hits the cv axle. Did anyone find a solution? Thanks Edited October 9, 2018 by BenKoster
TONTOCOVER Posted October 11, 2018 Posted October 11, 2018 I wound up cutting like a 1/4 inch off the bolt, short enough to clear the axle, but long enough for the lock nut to still engage the threads on the bolt
Rolo Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 Hello I have a 2017 Chevy Silverado 4x4 and already had a leveling kit on it and noticed that the CV shaft has rubbing marks on it but I believe the previous owner used same bolts. Well my question is could that cause a rubbing noise when turning my wheel to back out of a parking spot or drive way?? But just FYI it has a small space between the cv shaft and the bolt but maybe rubs when turning idk.
gdcpony Posted March 27, 2021 Posted March 27, 2021 Because this came up on a search for this issue, I figured I would add my super difficult fix. I pulled the CV and put the bolt down. I will pay for that when I do the struts next year, but oh well. I will probably just do the hubs at the same time. Now, off to get an alignment on Monday.
