I was wondering if anyone installed a rear sway bar on their new 2014 Chevy Silverado/Sierra 1500 and if it is worth the money? There is no drilling involved. Ram trucks have them but they have a different rear suspension system. They have them on sports cars etc. Seems like it would stabilize the ride accordingly. Might give a more bumping ride when cornering. See attachment for more details.

Had a Rear Sway bar on the old 73 Camper Special with the 454 in it.

Also Rear box shocks . Used for Carrying a Camper in the box. No need if you are not hauling a Topper !!!!

May not be needed but if there's one available specifically for these trucks, people will buy it. That's the nature of the aftermarket IMHO.

A rear sway bar would help handling no matter what. I would probably buy one if it does what it says it does.

I've always been curious about a rear sway bar for half ton trucks as well. Tahoes and suburbans have them. Possibly because of the extra weight over the rear axle, I'm betting one would not be beneficial in an unloaded pickup. Having said that if one was to haul a decent load around more often than not I could see it helping quite a bit. I know when I have 10-20 40lb bags stacked up near the tailgate and go around a corner I can definitely feel the truck start to lean, not enough for concern but it's there.

Not really needed IMO. They use it on coil spring suspension like the Ram and SUVs but the leafs should be stiff enough where it isn't needed.

I put such on my 1500 GMC sub, leaf spring set up, and it help cornering by reducing body roll. Help to cut front end roll too. Was going to put on my 09 but have other issues to deal with now. IF I go for the K-2 I will try as not to expensive and easy install and off if u do not like.

I have completed an additional review on this subject. This what I found out.

REAR SWAY BAR

Rear Sway Bar - Improve Handling

Rear sway bars can greatly improve the handling of a vehicle. The sway bar can also be referred to as a stabilizer bar or an anti sway bar. Most sway bars mount at two places on the frame or body of the vehicle. The bar then extends out to each side of the vehicles suspension, linking the right side suspension to the left side suspension. The purpose of the sway bar is to reduce the amount of sway or body roll as a vehicles weight is shifted from side to side. When a vehicles weight is shifted from the side to side, the sway bar applies the load from one side of the suspension to the other side, keeping the body from swaying or rolling to the side experiencing the most loads. The purpose of the sway bar is to keep the body of the vehicle level while maintaining traction and control of the vehicle as the weight is shifted from side to side. The transfer of loads through the sway bar can improve the handling of a vehicle.

If you're interested in improving the handling of your vehicle, you may consider adding a sway bar to the front or rear of your vehicle if it doesn't already have one. Sway bars can come in various sizes to help improve the handling of a vehicle. Over time, sway bars can eventually break. Other parts of the sway bar system can also wear out like the mounting bushings or links. Replacing these wearable parts can eliminate any play that might be found in the sway bar system. Contact Rare Parts for replacement sway bars and or bushings.

The bad part - You hit a bump with only one side, and it behaves the same way, as though you have a stiffer spring, so you feel uneven bumps more. You feel it crossing anything diagonally as well, such as coming into or out of a parking lot or driveway curb.

Good Part - Saves tire wear because the truck stays level and the tire runs more flat on the roads when cornering.

I guess I had some money burning in my pocket and didn’t have anything to do. I always had one on my sports cars. So I pulled the trigger and purchased the Hellwig rear sway bar. I got it at Sdtrucksprings.com and it came in this past Friday 3/6/2014. Saturday was a warm day and I installed it. It was a bolt on without any drilling and took me about 3 plus hours with coffee breaks and to read the directions. I sprayed painted the sway bar a flat black to make it look better before installing it.

I haven’t made my truck a daily driver yet because I am driving a 1992 Ford Explorer until we get through the winter months. There is a lot of salt on the CT roads.

I tried it out and drove about 25 miles. I didn’t have anything in the bed and it seems to ride tighter and stiffer around corners. I did feel the bumps more but for the short time it seems okay. I don’t know if it is the truck or the sway bars but I enjoy driving this truck anyways. I think it handles a little better. It looks good underneath. I have a regular cab so I don’t know how it will perform on the bigger trucks such as the double or crew cabs. I will need some more time to put it to the test.

I like the improvement.

I just saw a video on this. The sway bar was installed on a Ford. You do not have any exhaust issues on the Chevy Silverado and it is a very easy installation. I don't do heavy duty loads with my truck to make it worth while to upgrade the front sway bar.

I put their equivalent rear bar on my 2008 crewcab. It keeps the truck flatter in corners regardless of whether empty or loaded heavily.

    • Hello hello looking forward to expanding my knowledge of the 2026 2500 HD that I just bought.   Truck has 3500 miles on it four-wheel-drive crew cab and I’m about to put a 6 1/2 inch BDS lift on it 18 x 10 -25 offset with 37’s   Already have the wheels and tires just waiting on the lift install in about three weeks   Question what surprises am I not gonna be happy with?  I’m not new to lifted trucks so I know that acceleration towing gas mileage all that is affected..   Question is those of you that have this truck this powertrain with a 10 speed Allison and have done the mods that I’m doing,,, how bad is it? Is that Allison constantly gonna be hunting for the right gear to go into? And what about towing, acceleration, fuel consumption as mentioned?    Lastly how come I can’t find any ring pinion gear set up for these axles and when could I expect to see them?   I apologize if there’s any typos I’m doing speech to text on my iPhone.
    • I've got a 2013 2500 6.0L Flexfuel. Drove the truck earlier today with no issues. Went to run an errand tonight and noticed key fob wouldn't work. Figured battery was dead, so replaced fob batter. Still wasn't working. Grabbed my other set of keys with the other fob and that one wasn't working either. So I manually unlock truck and insert key. Interior lights come on, dashboard lights up, turn key and truck starts. Turn truck off, like a moron, and try starting again. This time no crank, no click, no nothing. Lights still come on and dash lights up, but now I'm getting a service 4wheel drive, service tire monitor, etc. Check voltage on battery and Im showing 12.2v. Throw my battery charger on it and give it 15 mins and try starting again. But still no crank no start. Decide maybe its a bad battery, run to autozone grab a new one and put it in. Same issue. Disconnect battery and let it sit for 15 mins. Try again and still nothing. I had managed to roll the windows down earlier as its a humid night, but now I can't get them to roll up. Power locks are also not working now. Then randomly I try the key again, and it fires right up. Immediately I roll up the windows as we have nothing but rain forecast this week. I shut it back off wait 30 seconds and start up again. Worked a 2nd time. So turn it off, start putting things back together. Try one more time, and back to no crank no start. And now the car alarm starts going off. Had to disconnect battery and leave it that way for the night as I don't think my neighbors would appreciate my alarm going off again tonight. Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
    • No one will care for you like you care for you. Do what you can for as long as you can. IMHO of course.
    • How about them NICKS!!!
    • Hi there.  Long time lurker, first post.    i have read the previous posts regarding the water ingress problem with this emblem.  I bought my 1500 SLT the  summer of 2025 new and after reading the MANY problems with these emblems failing I decided to install one anyways.  As per a YouTube video, I sealed ( or tried to) this sign with silicone sealant around the outer perimeter joint and the holes that were already somewhat sealed on the rear plate of the emblem.  And installed the connector assembly using dielectric grease on the connectors. The installation looked great and worked well for about 4 months……then FAILURE.  Grrrrrr…… I live in the great white north and wash my truck weekly in an automatic car wash  to keep the salt off.  Let me tell you that removing the old, failed emblem is a whole different animal than removing the OEM individual letters without removing the grill assembly. Mainly because the illuminated logo is built differently than the original letters which  you can remove the red surface lettering with a knife or some kind of blade which gives access to the tabs which hold the logo onto the grill. So I had to essentially destroyed the old emblem to remove it. Doing so killed my chance of doing somekind of autopsy on the failed , old logo.  But there was plenty of water inside when I ripped it apart.  Prior to installing the new assembly I tried it with the old harness and it works fine.   Does anyone have any insight as to where the water is getting into this emblem? I intend to seal the new logo with slow curing epoxy this time around using a syringe.  I think this newer emblem may be an updated unit which I hope GM got the vendor to fix. It has an October 2025 date on it.    If this one  fails,  I am just going to revert back to the non-illuminated letters….AFTER PULLING THE GRILL.    Any thoughts on sealing with epoxy would be appreciated. Thx!   Doug
