All 1LT trucks have the chrome insert grille. All 2LT trucks (read Z71) have a unique Z71 grille that is black insert and has a different pattern than the regular grille. 2WT trucks have the same grille as a 1LT but it is a black insert not chrome.

What kind of truck do you have?

I have an LT1 no z71 stuff and have a black honeycomb grille which I love. The chrome one was just too much chrome for me. I didn't ask for it, it was just on the lot when I was looking so i purchased it. My truck was built in July.

I noticed this too when buying. I have a Z71 so I ended up with the Chrome outside, with black inside fins and the Z71 badge on the drivers side of the grill. The 4X4 models come with a nice looking all chrome grill, and the LTZ has a really nice chrome grill too. Mine is cool too though...it says "Z71 on it" lol.

The early LT's had black/gray honey-comb style grills, and then later GM started building them with the chrome honey-comb grills. The Z71 trucks have always had a unique black grill with the Z71 badge.

If you visit a dealership, the early built LT's may have the gray/black grill, while the identical LT's built later have the chrome grill insert.

I just bought a Z71, and do not love the Z71 black grill. I would love to be able to replace my black Z71 insert to a chrome one. The truck accessory store down the road says they are working on a replacement grill, but it isn't available yet.

You can always buy the LTZ chrome grill insert, but I think GM wants around $650 for them, plus installation.

mine is an lt crew allstar.. im not sure if its a 1lt or a 2lt but it has the black, not the chrome. it is not a z71 just a 4x4

Then you must have one of the earlier built LT's, that were being built with a black/gray honey-comb grill insert.... Now the same trucks are being built with the chrome honey-comb insert.

btw, you have a LT w/1LT package. (non Z71 truck = 1LT, Z71 equipped = 2LT)

My local lot has both styles in stock, it depends on when the truck was built.

Who cares, just buy a w/t grille and colormatch it, that's what I plan on doing, then selling my z71 one.

Here is a cheaper option which only takes seconds to do for a chrome grille.

I have the black grille and would like a chrome grille which I am under a tight budget. So I ended up getting a 2014 Chevy Silverado CHROME Snap On Grille Overlay Grill Trim Insert. It cost $99 and took seconds to install. It doesn't stick out too far at all and very hard to notice the difference from an original chrome grille. It looks good and life time on the chrome appearance. This way if I get tried of the chrome, I can always go back to the black grille once I figure out how to take the chrome one off. I guess the easy way to remove the chrome grille is to take the same route to replace the entire grille so you can push on the plastic pins/clips. All the grilles (original etc.) are made out of plastic. I like it so far. Sorry I didn't see any black snap on grilles.

I saw them on Truck U.

They have grilles for WT and LT that don't have the chrome grilles. They also make the LTZ which is a different grille. All the grilles are at $99.

Nothing is cheaper than buying an OEM part, installing and then selling your oem part for the same price.... lol so to your option, there is a CHEAPER and IMO a better option. Can't beat OEM!

I have been curious about this. I have a '14 LTZ Texas Edition crew cab. It has the black honeycomb insert. I have seen numerous LTZ trucks around town with chrome honeycombs. Was mine supposed to be chrome? Mine is 2WD and not a Z71. The trucks I have seen have the LTZ badge on the chrome grill inserts as well.
