Black Bear Performance does it again!

I know I haven't posted much here for a while, but I had to give a shout out to Black Bear again. They hooked me up with a great price and of course excellent customer service on a new Magnacharger TVS1900.

I have heard Justin and Jenna race about these kits for 5 years now. Now I know why. The kit is amazing and instructions are spot on step by step.

The instant power is awesome. Anyone considering a kit make sure to factor in tire cost.

Thanks Justin and Jenna!

Nice. Is that the same truck as before (6.0)? Any worry about the transmission? A video clip w sound is in order. My only concern with a SC is that some have a significant whine, so I'm curious how this model sounds.

It is my 2007 silverado Vmax. I do have some concerns with the transmission, but I'm not that worried. I will stick a 4L80 in it if/when this one goes.

The 1900 is very quiet. Occasional whine but not much at all. From what I understand the 2300 is much noisier .

Here is a video. It's not great but it's all I have right now. This is somewhere between 50-75% throttle. Justin just gave me the ok for full throttle yesterday.

I like what I hear/see there. I've kicked around the idea before (for towing), but couldn't find much info regarding heat/cooling requirements. I was also concerned with whine, but that sounds very good overall. It sounds like you're barely into it, and losing traction. I'd say that so long as Justin has the shifts smoothed out, and you aren't killing it all the time, you probably won't hurt the transmission easily. Even if you do, the 4Lxx can be built to handle it pretty easily (from what I've read).

I'm assuming the SC requires 91+ fuel?

Towing is the exact reason I bought it. I have a 27ft enclosed car hauler and it is a load. The truck handled it fine with my air bags and brakes, but it just wasn't as strong pulling it as I want it to be. I considered a 14, but just haven't been that swayed by them when this one is paid for.

The kit is absolutely awesome. It includes everything you will need (except tools). A good tool set including a inch pound torque wrench

It comes with a inter cooler. I have a transmission cooler waiting to be installed.

These transmissions can handle a 1000 hp if you're not hot rodding them and keep them cool.

I only have 1 regret. I didn't do it sooner.

Towing is the exact reason I bought it....

I didn't do it sooner.

I've been looking at the new trucks a little myself, for the same reason (not satisfied with power/gearing when towing ~7k lb camper), but just can't get excited about them... especially for what they're asking. To me, it's less (or at least no more) truck for a lot more $$. I can make what I have "really good" for a fraction of the cost difference on a new one, not to mention the fun of doing it. Being out of warranty is nice, in that respect. I do most of my own mechanic work, and even tuned this truck w/ EFI, so a SC project would be fun. I wouldn't tune a forced induction setup myself, but Justin uses EFI, so it would be easy to work with him.

The other question I have on the 1900 is how it performs when not towing, since I don't need that kind of power 99% of the time, and the truck is my daily driver. I'm assuming you don't have any engagement when cruising (i.e., compressor cuts off below some level of intake vacuum), so the parasitic loss should be pretty minor day-to-day? I couldn't really tell in the short video, but it sounds "normal" until you get into it.

You've piqued my interest... and appreciate the first-hand feedback.

You are correct. It has a vacuum operated bypass valve. So under most a lot of driving conditions it is just like it was prior. It actually had been very nice to have justin put me on throttle limitations for the first 10-12 days because I was forced to drive it like "normal". It really gave me a chance to see how much benefit there is to daily driving too.

It has eliminated almost all of my discontent with the 4 speed transmission. Meaning that often it doesn't need to down shift to pass a car or change lanes or make a light before it turns. Times where it normally would either bog down because it didn't want to down shift or it would jump hard to second from forth don't occur very often any more. It just pulls like a beast at part throttle.

I'm currently running the stock 3.4 inch pulley. Which with my headers should have me around 5-6lbs of boost. I plan to stick a 3.0 inch pulley next month and that should put me closer to 9-10lbs. I don't need to, but I want to. Lol I'm mainly waiting on my PLX boost gauge to get here.

Awesome! Thanks for posting.

Please keep us updated. Would love to hear more feedback on your impressions, etc.

Now all you need is a set of those Callaway valve covers ...

Don't guess I have seen those.

I like it looking fairly stock under the hood. I have even thought about fitting the stock manifold cover back on the truck.

Nice set up and sounds great! :)

Oh, I think I see a spot of dirt in the engine bay! :jester:

Now to treat that tranny to some quality synthetic fluid to help keep it cool.
