Hanging lighted sign

So I need a bit of help hanging the sign I picked up at the drags. It has small chains and an S-hook. So I figure to be safe I need to attach it to a truss in my garage. My ceiling is drywalled. So basically I need help with what kind of bolt or hook I need.

Here is the sign

I'll say that I'm by no means a construction man.

But it seems that for something as light as that sign, threading a couple J hooks into a ceiling truss would be sufficiently sturdy, as well as reliable and simple to install.

You could use a 2" long eye-bolt and drive that into the truss, or anything else solid. Then the "S" hooks would attach the chain and eye bolts together to make a beautiful ACDELCO sign!

Or, you could use 2" screws (coarse thread and made for wood), and drive them through a link in the chain. Use washers if the heads would go through the links. Faster install, but slower un-install. Eye hooks may look cleaner, but the screws would be more permanent....in case severe earthquakes or flying debris or parts are an issue in your garage.

Darral thwt is what I thought about when I saw them at Home Depot but didnt know if they would go into the truss

They'll work either type Ceiling hook or the eye bolt/screw. Best if you take a drill bit and drill a pilot hole for the screw to go into, much easier to install. Make sure you don't drill too large of a hole

Chris,

I would first use a 1/16" drill bit to make sure you find a solid truss / joist. Then predrill as said so its easier to go in and you have less of a chance of splitting the wood.

I would use a closed eyebolt rather the open so in case it got windy in there it would have less of a chance of swinging off.

Also a little tip for putting it in. After you predrill start it by hand and then use a long handle scredriver to put in the loop and finish it off. This will give you leverage.

I was going to do it by hand. I will have to find the stud finder. First I have to move the items in the garage and plan out where im going to put my poker table. Im going to put it directly over the table
