2008 Sierra ball joint question

So i started experiencing a clunk when turning side to side while moving. Sounds like its coming from higher up in the front driver side so I am thinking the uppers are shot. I didnt check it yet but suspect ball joint. The truck just tuned 60k and are original. I read they are junk but will do the official check this weekend. A few questions about changing them.

 

Should I replace just the ball joint or get the arms as well? And the other question should I swap out the lowers too while I have it apart?

If it's just the ball joints, then the arm(s) can be reused. I would go ahaead and do all 4 ball joints while you have it down that far. Maybe try MOOG replacements??

 

There would have to be some significant damage to warrant arm replacments (IE:cracking, etc).

The uppers aren't replaceable, you need to change the control arm.

Personally I'd buy the rough country replacement control arms. They have a replaceable MOOG ball joint and sell for about $249 a pair.

Well I checked them out and they still seem good. No movement that I can see. I guess I am going to have to look elsewhere.

Did you try torqueing the upper and lower control arm nuts? My recollection is that they need to be at like 140 lbs/ft. Anytime I got an alignment I would have to go back with a torque wrench and tighten them down (the upper arm bolts especially). I was getting a clunk when turning also.

that clunking could be coming from your stabilizer bar links. Check those.

Its strange. It lasted a few days (it was extremely cold and icy) and went away. Haven't heard it since. Worry about it if and when it returns. I did check all that was mentioned above and it all looks tight.

+1 Everytime I hit a bump I heard a front end knock. turns out the bolt holding the stabilizer bar to the arm had snapped
