Please tell me the maximum tire size I can put on my 1999 gmc Sierra slt excab 4wd. Can I go with 17 inch wheels? I read the max was 265/75 R16 thanks!

285/75/16s fit on my 2001 Z bone stock w/o the keys even cranked with a heavy ass brushguard and winch weighing down the front. You can fit 35s if you get Ford keys and crank them or a roughcountry leveling kit. If you do a 3 inch body lift and some keys you can tuck 37s

Wheel size is mostly irrelevant. You can't go smaller than 16" on that truck but up is no problem (within reason ). For 17s you just drop the aspect ratio one size so you'd want 285/70/17.

how wide of a wheel should I get? 17x8? 17x8.5? for a 285/70/17

I am going with a 285/70r17 on a 17x7.5 (6x5.5/139.7 lug pattern) Only the stock Z71 lift and suspension. NO ADDITIONAL LIFT!! Does anyone think there will be tire rub problems?

Depends on the offset and backspace of the wheel. If you stay close to factory offset you should be fine, what wheel are you planning to run?

Yeah that is what I was getting at, stock rims and it will work, aftermarket with a 0 or negative offset and he will have trouble at stock height.
