Buzzing noise on cold day: FIXED!

Hey guys/gals,

I got a 2014 Sierra AT SLT. Bought the truck in October of 2013 and all was good until the weather turned cold and when I say cold I mean the outside temperature of anything below freezing. When the weather got cold I noticed that I would get a really really annoying "buzzing sound" coming from the engine bay. It was loud enough to hear while driving and it increased in pitch as the engine revved. As the truck warmed up the noise would lessen until it would disappear completely. If the weather was above freezing this sound wasn't there at all so I knew it had to be something related to some metal piece that was contracted slightly which put it slightly out of spec and as the engine bay warmed it expanded putting it back in spec.

I took my truck in back in December of 2013 and advised the Service manager that I was going to drop my truck off the night before because the technician needed to hear the sound while she sat on the lot and was cold, if they brought it into the service bay they would never hear the sound because it would be warm in there. So they did that and heard the sound but the first attempt didn't solve it.

Fast forward to last week, I brought my truck in again and this time they resolved the issue. The technician checked in the system and found Bulletin PI1150 which addressed the issue. Seems that a noise deadener needed to be installed on the starter heat shield to correct the issue. I of course was skeptical but was pleasantly surprised to find that it did indeed resolve the issue. I guess being a new model it takes time for these kind of issues to surface and get into the technician's systems which is probably why they never found the issue back in December.

Anyway, thought I would pass this along to all you K2XX owners out there that might be having the same issue. We are (as I seen someone say) the guys and gals that are "taking the slings and arrows" for all of the owners to come so we got to help each other out! :)

For the record I love this truck, I traded in my 2010 Sierra Nevada Edition for this All Terrain and I have had no real issues with the truck. My 2010 had the 4.8L V8 vortec in it and this '14 has the 5.3 V8 Ecotec3 and it gets much better gas mileage and it is still getting better (approximately 10,000 kms on the odometer right now). The ride quality and interior, IMO, are far ahead of the GMT900 series and light years ahead of the GMT800 series trucks.
