Denali exterior vs All-terrain exterior - thoughts?

I too was on the fence between the Denali and the AT. Didn't like all the bling on the Denali, but loved the interior... I wanted a truck I wouldn't end up not using as a truck because it was to pretty. I ended up ordering the AT, black int, black ext. Not a big fan of the carbon fiber look, but I think it works okay with the black interior. Really like the red seat stitching... will be doing other red accent bits, like painting the disc brake calibers red, red sway bars, etc. Wanted the 6.2, so order is going to take at least 8 weeks.

You can always get the Denali chrome stuff painted. But if you want the Denali interior, its gonna be hard to swap in stuff into an SLT All Terrain.

I know that I am in the minority, but I do not like all the chrome and bling of the Denali exterior. I love the Denali interior. I am within a whisker of pulling the trigger on my Denali, after a lot of good advice on this forum about options, other models, etc. The "last mile" for me is resolving this issue. I do not like the interior on the all terrain... the carbon fiber look alike feels very out of place to me, I just don't like it. I LOVE the exterior look of the All Terrain. I feel that exact opposite about the Denali. I don't like the outside chrome bling as much, but I love the interior. Why not an SLT? A couple reasons - I don't like the chrome bumper as much as body color and I very much want a 6.2l engine. Yes I could order one, but if I want to buy off lot/inventory for a better deal, the vast majority of 6.2 are in the Denalis. Like the configurable gauges and a few other things too.

 

So bottom line, anyone else change the chrome bling exterior look on their Denali? I know for many, they seek that part out. Not me. I would bubble wrap the grill and just replace with an OEM All Terrain grill. Anyone else do that? Is it doable? thanks

After my final test drive yesterday, I am not so sure the cooled seats are a plus. They are extremely noisy and they vent hot air to the rear seats, which are already at a disadvantage with no rear A/C vent. Very disappointing in an otherwise perfect cabin. I mean, seriously, no rear A/C vent, AND hot air through the seat backs from the front. How are my kids going to stay cool back there in TX heat?

I'm on the fence too. Currently have an '11 S-Denali and like it a lot. The new SD it just over the top for this old man. Someone said the ghetto-grill and I agree. The wheels aren't that nice either. But keep in mind I'm not too fond of my current grill or wheels either, but they aren't over the top. But my '11, to me, as a package looks great, classy, little bold. I can't say that about the new one.

I recently became ready to buy and my dealer said he can't get any 6.2's, and that I'll probably have to wait for, and order a '15. No biggie.

So I have to decide between SLT, AT and SD. Leaning SLT right now, put some decent rims on it and call it a day. If I go SD, grills gotta go for sure, maybe rims but I have a hard time spending an extra 2-3K for rims. Like the AT but need the cooled seats, I really don't understand this one from GM.

Again GM makes it hard, while their competitors seem to make it easier.

I was at a Dodge dealer this weekend picking up the wifes Durango because GM priced us out of the new Yukons, and the dealer was packed, while the GM dealer wasn't.

I like everything about the AT... The one and only reason I went with a SLT is for the cooled seats. I can live with the wood interior and I'll have my painter buddy color match the exterior. And the truck will look great with the SLT options all blacked out

I went w/ AT - I like the exterior MUCH more as stated, the rims - fuhgetabouit - best looking rims on any of the new trucks and while that is my opinion, I would wager it is also "majority opinion" as well. I also prefer the look of the non-step painted bumper as well, black on black on black AT looks just mean w/ the gun metal rims and 20% tint.

 

I do not have the 6.2, wouldn't mind it but also don't miss it....to me there's nothing the Denali offers that would necessitate any extra coin and I too, do not like the "bling"

 

That being said, whatever you choose I would look into getting a clear bra, painted bumpers are a B**CH when it comes to rock chips, 13,300 miles on mine and it is already peppered pretty good.

I wouldn't go so far as "extremely noisy", but you can hear them at the high setting if you don't have the radio on or an exhaust. And the hot air vent can be lessened I believe with a TSB fx - they remove the direct duct to the back and it'll route towards the bottom of the seat more. And there are AC vents under the front seats for the rear passengers that AC does blow through. Not the best implemntation, I agree, but it's better than nothing. My kids haven't complained yet, but it isn't summer time yet.

People in hotter climates should not buy a GM crew cab if you plan on putting kids in the back. It will be the next big safety recall in a few years. If you complain to your dealer, they will remove the duct work for the cooled seats per the TSB, effectively killing the option you paid for. Waiting for the redesigned seats...

There is a tsb for the ac seat vents? Really? And redesigned seats are already in the works?

 

Yeah, i never understood why they vented directly towards the rear passengers either. The previous design made much more sense.

 

Also dissapointed by the lack of upper rear air vents. Yet another piss poor design on GMs part. Going to have to make a list of complaints to keep at hand in case i get a phone call or mail survey.

With the current safety issues GM is fighting now, everything else goes on the back seat in effort to save face & keep key employees out of prison.

 

Keep in mind that these trucks are designed up north by northerners that do not understand the need for in cab cooling down south. They will cut and decont anything to save a buck.

That's why the heated seats and heated mirrors and heated steering wheel and heated window work so well lol, also lucky they're designed up there so they can survive a beating- potholes the size of craters and temps 20 below zero combined w/ salt/sand/ice/snow covered roads are a lot more taxing for long term reliability and a quiet rattle free long lasting truck than glass smooth pavement and 100 degree heat

So unfortunate. Out of 10-15 cars including ones that i have owned that have come with heated or heated/cooled seats, the heated/cooled seats in my '09 Suburban were the best i have ever parked my butt in. My wife hasnt riden in the truck yet and i already know she is going to be disappointed. They dont get as hot heat nor do they heat as quickly as our old suburban.

Another completely incorrect post by Won. Removing the vent ducting has NOTHING to do with the cooling performance. It'll just vent differently. There is no plan for a redesign from what I've been told. This is a nit of an issue.
