You misunderstood. You can modify your truck.....but you can't exceed payload.......legally-without ramifications should something happen. Another interesting conversation would be calling up your insurance agent and telling them your ignoring the manufacturer's recommendations as regards to the capacities of the truck on a regular basis, and seeing what they would say.

I can modify the truck...but I can't exceed the payload.......then why would I modify the truck. I am no where near understanding this. This is a great forum and I really, really like it......but this is a wierd one. These last few posts would ruin most folks unless they are just modifying their truck for looks (i.e. leveling kit, lift kit...essentially no purpose in terms of utility). These comments would also put alot of businesses out of business. I'm good with the comments above and will ultimately do some research the old fashioned way.......so all is well, but we need to end this thread. I'll most definitely use the site.....it's always been good.

Legally you can't increase the payload. The parts will increase it, but if something happens like an accident or someone is injured it is on you. I put the prongs on my truck, In short time they are coming off though

You can modify it to the point so it tows better or doesn't sag as bad, but like everyone else said, do not exceed that payload limit. My grandfather actually got a hefty fine for not meeting the payload capacity. Even though the truck could easily tow the 5th wheel, there was too much tongue weight and it slipped over the threshold for the GVWR? I think that's the one. Besides, its a half ton with more than likely a 10 bolt rear end, mine has been bent from loading one ton of pellets a couple times in it (before it was actually mine, it was my dads before he gave it to me)

That way it'll ride nice (for a truck) when unloaded but then increases the "help" as it's loaded up. Now if only I had the $$...

I have a 2008 z71 4x4 sierra. May upgrade in the near future, but regardless of if it's a '08 1500 or a newer 1500....is it possible to put 2500HD springs on a 1500? If so, are there any other upgrades that should be performed with that addition.

I'm sure you know what I mean.....it's like getting a huge motor and having crappy brakes. Just want to make sure I'm not missing something for the rear.

I currently have super springs (helper springs) in the back now....but I think I'll get quite a bit more capacity if I go with a 2500HD springs? Thoughts?

 

If you decide to use the rear springs from a 2500HD make sure they are from a 2001-2010. The 2011 + trucks use a 3" wide rear spring and they will not fit to your truck. 2001-2010 2500HD's use a 2.5" wide spring.
