I've only had my truck for 2 weeks now, and its already killing me to add some things to it. I've looked through the mods forum and there is a ton of things people are doing, but I thought I'd ask here, as a way to get a good rundown list.

What would you recommend as some good mods or upgrades I should look into doing soon? Be it body (interior/exterior), under the hood, electronic, etc.

I had step bars, molded splash guards and tint added on by the dealership before buying it. I've also already got in a bug deflector that I'm putting on this weekend. Also thinking of ordering the driver side pillar handle, only $45 and easy to install. Will eventually add a spray in bed liner.

What else?

Thanks everyone...!!

I guess it depends on what you want to use your truck for.

I ride quads, so I put in a spray in bed liner (Line-X) for the back, and weather tech mats so I don't get mud all over the inside

I also like the storage space in the bed, so I went with an access rollup tonneau cover to keep things dry.

I wanted to keep people out of the bed, so I put a pop lock on the tailgate.

flip down DVD player for the kids

Intune tuner and K&N intake for more HP and better mpg.

HID kit for better lighting.

LED reverse lights and bed lights were a nice addition for cheap.

my antenna would drag my garage door, so I got a shorter one.

everything served a purpose for me, but if you are looking for ideas lookswise:

I want to get some wider tires, but will probably keep my stock AT wheels.

painting the GMC signs is cheap and easy way to clean up the looks.

some people like to de-badge everything, which just takes time and gives a cleaner look.

Grilles, LED taillights (someday if they ever come out with some for the 2014's), and aftermarket headlights (again waiting for) are ways to give a personal look.

level kits, or lifts add a lot to the looks (some even lower them)

Thanks Joe, exactly what I'm looking for. That touched on a lot that I've seen and didn't think about in my post.

Quick cheap things are always nice. For sure going to paint my bowties. Also want to get that Stubby antenna.

I really would like to find more info on the tuners. More HP and MPG are always great. Can you suggest something, a link? I did think of the K&N but have never done that so I need to research it.

Also considering the level kit. Humm..

diablo intune:

K&N intake 63-3082

I notice quicker response, shifts faster and smoother.

butt dyno says more HP off each of them, but I dont plan on taking it to a Dyno.

The intake changed the sound a bit. at normal driving speeds it inst any different, but when you step on the pedal it has a grumble to it now.

In my Yukon Denali with similar changes, I averaged 1mpg better... over 7 years it paid for itself. The added response and power was just a bonus.

also Diablo Lew does some custom tunes based on your driving which I plan to do soon.

I would not accessorize, too much, on the exterior.

Flowmaster 50 or Borla muffler. 3" tailpipe, hidden, route under pass. frame. Stop behind hitch cross bar.

Alarm with ignition kill.

Pop-n-lock tailgate lock.

Autoguard hood latch.

Stant gas cap lock.

Mcguard wheel lug locks.

Gm spare tire lock.

Add bass speaker and amp. Use stock setup, maybe upgrade door speakers.

Wheels and tires, when stock ones are wore out, make some truck payments, first.

Thanks, gm4yrs. You really go all out protecting and locking everything up. I guess I don't blame you, and all of those should be cheap enough to do. I don't know anything about the pop-n-lock tailgate, so I need to look into that.

I was considering a small sub, 8 or 10" at most.

Here is some ideas for you.

Plasti dipped bowties, HIDs and LED lights for more light outputugygasu8.jpg

Footwell lightsydeme5a6.jpg

Custom billet Z71 logo on the dash a7epuhu7.jpg

And OEM bedlights are everything I've added. Not that expensive of mods. Also adding a bedtred pro liner, AVS big deflector, and rough country 2.5 level this upcoming week.

I've defiantly wanted to swap out my light for LED's. Do you happen to have a link to what you used? I do also want to install the foot lighting.

How does the Plasti dipped stuff work? I don't know anything about it, but see a lot of people doing it. Its just a spray paint, right? Did you remove the emblems, or just tape it up? Thanks..!!

These are the LED bulbs I used for my truck, fit perfectly. http://store.ijdmtoy.com/5202-H16-LED-Driving-Fog-Light-Bulbs-p/led_fog_5202_sku_4e.htm

As far as the plasti dip its basically just spray paint but once it dries it will peel right of. Its strong and reliable. Can be pressure washed and don't have to worry about it coming off. But if you mess it up or just wanna take it off it will peel right up. Keep in mind though the longer it sits the harder it is to get off. I just masked off the emblems with painters tape and some plastic and painted, put 4 coats of red and 2 coats of glossifier.

    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
