Sea monster is right, if you have the 5.3 you get 18s upgraded from 20s..

 

Ah, I see. I was only ever looking at the upper trim 6.2's. I doubt there's any difference in capacity as the highest tow rating available comes with the 6.2 and 20's.

 

I've never been a huge fan of the 20's but they are starting to grow on me. I think the sidewalls look pretty good...........after putting 34" tires on them! Really I think the sidewall height matters a lot less for towing than the type of tire--an E rated LT and you should be fine regardless of size (and that should be an upgrade anybody who will be towing a lot should think about). For "rock crawling" offroad type stuff, OTOH, the smaller wheels are definitely an advantage.

There's more difference in the ratings between rear end ratios than engine size.

 

With 3.42's, the 5.3L sometimes is rated to tow more than the 6.2L.

(eg on the 4wd CC with 5'8" box 9600 with 5.3L, 9500 with 6.2L)

 

Same truck with 3.73's, the 6.2 tows 11,800 and the 5.3 tows 11,200.

 

The limiting factor in the rating depends on the what truck configuration is being considered.

see whats funny is I had the F150 with max tow and the eco and I was sitting at 2020payload. But im assuming you had the crew cab, no max tow and the 3.55 gearing put you there. None the less a 1200lb payload on a half ton sucks.

Yeah it was a 2013 SuperCrew 4x4 Off-Road package (basically about 85% of the FX4 options), two tone paint (lowers the payload, lmao) and 20's.
