Arnoldthepig Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Just a heads up to you guys looking at the Ionic 5" steps for your new trucks. I put my steps on in November of 2013 and as you can see from the pics, the mounting brackets, bolts and steps are rusted up pretty bad. I think they were $369.00 when I purchased them from autocustoms.com. I contacted Ionic Automotive 3 times via their website to see what I could have done about the condition of the steps with no response. They also do not have a phone number listed for customer support so I guess that facet of the company does not exist. Needless to say the steps are no longer on the truck.
brentadams646 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 may be one of those cases where you get what you pay for, sounds pretty cheap for a set of good side steps.
Arnoldthepig Posted April 24, 2014 Author Posted April 24, 2014 Yeah I should have bought the oem steps...ah well just posted to give everyone a heads up. Im gonna purchase a set of oem steps in the coming weeks and chalk it up as a loss...
brentadams646 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 look for some used ones on craigslist you'd be surprised how many are available. I am one of the ones that take them off as soon as I get home from the dealer.
diannabill Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Did you try calling the number listed for their Wholesale Department and see if they can put you in touch with someone on the phone? 1-877-203-1766 http://ionicautomotive.com/contact.html
racerkvn Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I have the OEM steps off my High Country in my attic, they were on my truck for 3 weeks and are perfect. I'll sell them if you want them.
Sooperdave Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 I would just replace the bolts with a better grade and redo the brackets. If they are cracked or broken just have them welded and then refinish them. I bought the Ionic Railways and will keep an eye on mine. I'm very happy so far but only have had them on for about 3 weeks. It was a brutal winter so the salty roads are evil to cheap bolts.
Arnoldthepig Posted April 24, 2014 Author Posted April 24, 2014 I did speak with the place where I bought the steps. They said Ionic is sending me new brackets and hardware which I am assuming will rust again in 6 months lol... I guess they were able to get a hold of Ionic. I guess craigslist is an option too! Racerkvn: you close to NJ?
Jsb55 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I bought the Ionic Voyager steps from Autocustoms. Mine have been on for 4 months and are like new but I'll keep my eye on them. Thanks for the heads up.
YQatari Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 I'd replace the bolts and hardware and have them done with Line-X.
racerkvn Posted April 26, 2014 Posted April 26, 2014 Hey Arnoldthepig, sorry for the delay. I'm no where near Jersey... but if you want them make me an offer, reasonable, and I'll ship them from my shop next week.
