Thanks! I thought I was good but it's a much better feeling to know that I'm still in the clear (legally)

Love all your mod's especially all the lighting. What part of LA are you from?

I have a '14 SLT Irridium.

Here's where I mounted the switch. I have a video showing everything still working but I didn't get to upload it to YouTube yet. I'm going to try to do it tonight so I can post a link here.

Oh and I partially debadged the tail gate. Doesn't look all that amazing right now but after a few more things it'll look a lot better

All that remaining chrome has got to go! You're killing me Mike! Lol.

Sorry to see the injury to the truck. Hope they get it looking perfect.

Got a quote from a vinyl shop last night, the guy said that they should be able to match the bumpers pretty closely to the WDT body paint. He said it should only cost around $300-350 installed on both bumpers. Hopefully they are right! I may have them try to do the door handles in WDT or black as well.

You're getting the chrome bumpers color matched in vinyl?

Yep! I'm not 110% sure that I want to have my bumpers color matched so I figured if I do vinyl wrap, at least that way I can remove it if I ever decide that I don't like it. Also it's cheaper than having them painted, especially since no shops around here will touch a chrome bumper.

here's the link to my video! Show's the the VLEDs work just like factory intended them to and I can disable them with the in-cab switch

So how do you have these hooked up? I'm not sure I quite understand how you've got them working.

Also, are your LED strips at full brightness all the time?

Sadly no, they are not at full brightness all the time :/ if I could figure out how to make that happen, you could bet your a$$ I would make them full bright all the time. But till that time I'm at the mercy of the factory programming.

This should help clear up some of what is happening with the manual override system I now have for the amber lights in the headlight

As you can see, both the yellow (blinker) and the teal/green (running) wires have both been cut, well I didn't feel like looking it up to be honest as to which color meant what so I just snipped the first one I grabbed when I first did this and that ended up being the yellow (blinker) but obviously that didn't do what I wanted to achieve so I had to reconnect it.

But here's what happened:

With the teal/green wire (this carries power to one of the 2 filaments in the stock halogens and this wire carries the running light/constant on power to the ambers) being cut, there is now no power being brought to the ambers to act as running lights. And since that is not part of the blinker or brake system, it does not affect the hyperblink warning system, so this is how I don't have a hyperblink issue. With that wire cut I had no power going to constantly keep the ambers on, and so in a CMA (cover my A$$) situation and with the advice from Chris, I decided that putting in a switch to allow me to control the ambers seperate from all other running lights wouldn't be a bad idea. So that's what I did. I ran 2 wires from each headlight and met the 4 total wires (two with a live feed from the stock end, and 2 from that return power to the bulbs when the switch is turned on/when a connection is made, and I combined them down to 2 wires so that I didn't have to run 4 into the cab and into a switch. So now when I turn my switch on, I remake the connection between the severed ends of the teal wire, therefore allowing power to flow and ignite the lights as running lights

Hope this has cleared things up a bit. I didn't get to take pictures as my phone was dying and the cold started to set In by the time I was ready to start running all the wires so I started rushing a bit more so I could be done sooner and get out of the cold!

 I vote for color matched door handles.

Maybe. I'm getting the new tow mirrors cause I got a good deal on them last night[emoji3] so I'll see what I want to do with the mirrors and handles once I get the bumpers done and the mirrors installed.

    • That makes sense, and I think you are describing the real product problem. Capturing data is the easy part. If the owner or technician has to manually dig through five minutes of millisecond-level logs, the product has already failed. The device would be at the ECM harness, not at the OBD port, so I agree that data retrieval and event marking need to be thought through carefully. The way I am thinking about the architecture is: The recorder itself should not depend on a phone, app, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or cloud connection to capture the event. It should always keep a local rolling buffer and lock the event locally. A button, phone app, or small cabin device would only act as an event marker. If the driver feels a stumble and presses the button 10–30 seconds later, the pre-buffer has to already contain the useful data. For data retrieval, the practical options would be a sealed service USB lead, Wi-Fi download, or a phone/cabin companion device. I would not expect the owner to remove the ECM-side module or work with raw files directly. The cloud or AI side would be for interpretation, not for capturing the event. The truck may have no connection when the issue happens, so the evidence has to be saved locally first. After that, cloud processing could help decode the data, compare it against baselines, and generate a readable report. For the first version, I would keep the automatic triggers conservative and objective: driver event marker bus-off error passive voltage drop / brownout device reset FIFO or queue overflow a normally periodic message disappearing side-to-side communication mismatch, if the topology supports that For “learning normal,” I agree with your point, but I would not want to overclaim it as automatic root-cause diagnosis at first. A realistic first step would be learned baseline comparison for that specific vehicle and operating condition. For example, a value would only be compared against similar conditions: RPM range load / MAP throttle position gear / vehicle speed coolant and oil temperature battery voltage AFM/DFM state, if decoded and validated Then the report could flag things like: this periodic message disappeared compared with its normal timing this value deviated from this vehicle’s normal range under similar conditions the same abnormal pattern repeated after the same type of event the anomaly occurred together with voltage, oil-pressure, misfire, or communication changes But I would still call that “abnormal pattern detected,” not “replace this part,” unless there is enough validated repair data behind it. So the intended product would not be “here is a huge log.” It would need to be an event package: what triggered the capture how much pre/post data was preserved what changed before and after the event whether the device itself reset, overflowed, or saw a bus error selected graphs around the event raw data only as supporting evidence From your perspective, what would make this kind of report useful instead of just another datalog? For example: What are the top 5 parameters or events you would want highlighted first? Would you trust a learned baseline for that specific vehicle, or would you prefer fixed thresholds? How much false-positive flagging would be acceptable before you stopped looking at the reports? What would a one-page report need to show for an independent shop to take it seriously? For misfire, AFM/DFM, oil pressure, or U-code complaints, what would you want the tool to flag automatically?
