2014 Sierra 5.3 vs. Ecoboost

i have been wanting to know for a while now if the new 5.3 would be able to keep up with the ecoboost or beat it in a drag race. well my buddy has a '13 FX4 ecoboost with 3.55's and 285 70 17 nittos. well we finally had the chance to line them up and run them. off the line i spun pretty bad (didnt think i was going to break my bfg's loose that bad) and he pulled ahead of me by about 1/4 to 1/2 a car. at the 1/4 mile mark he was still ahead of me by about 3/4-1 car length. it was a pretty good race between the two. i wish i would have gotten it on video, it could have gone either way i think, they are two evenly matched trucks as far as hp goes.

and i know some of yall are going to say "they are trucks not race cars" yeah i know, i dont race my truck but i really wanted to know since everyone thinks the ecoboost are passed down by god or something. so if you are a troll please stay out of this thread.

Almost bought an FX with the EB. Glad I chose the wiser road! I can't wait to smoke one at a light. :driving:

I test drove it. Completely not what I expected. Unless your foot is on the go pedal and boost builds it's no fun. No throttle response at all. I can't stand vehicles with no response. So I decided to head back to the GM's and I did some research on the 6.2L. I took a chance without driving one and ordered up since there were none to be found of the model I wanted. Damn glad I did! She is a blast to drive!

man if you have the 6.2 as long as you dont blow the tires off coming out of the hole (even still) you will destroy the EB.

Put E85 in and you will feel it, I did a 0 to 60 dash with an ecoboost and a hemi at the same light Hemi was my bro, ford was just there got them both. To be fair I use to drag race, I always could cut a good light.

I can cut a decent light too. I have never ran e85 though i might try that out one day though. Although like I said before I dont race my truck I have a car for that but it was good to finally know where our trucks both stand against eachother, either way dodge is left in the dust! ha!

This is why I got rid of mine. Watch the Tach and Spedo, WOT! IMO they aren't safe to be on the road. I was actually trying to blow it up but it wouldn't. I did that for 5 1/2 hrs on and off that day. It just shook and sputtered then finally pulled it out. Ford said we are sorry but we don't have a fix, our engineers are working on it. I told them I was posting the video's on youtube and getting rid of it at the next dealership. I did and haven't looked back. Dealership was sharp, they found something different every time then when I was getting close to be able to Lemon the thing they wouldn't give me an appointment anymore. The new ones are still having the same issues if you look on the Ford forum.

First post for me, I'm coming from 2 previous ecoboost heavily modded and prior to that I had two 6.2 max trailering 6.2 Chevys with tune and exhaust. I will say the 6.2 is faster than ecoboost stock for stock but once tuned the ecoboost is a whole different animal that a 6.2 can't even begin to compare to. Yesterday I traded in my 13 ecoboost for a new chevy 6.2 crew z71. I couldn't take the discomfort anymore from my ford. I tried and tried but the power wasn't worth it anymore. Ecoboost was a great engine for me but honestly overall I like the 6.2 better. Believe it or not I'm getting better fuel mileage with the new 6.2 motor. I know it's only been one day but 140 miles already driving the same way I always do.

Wassup pimp,

I'll second that a tuned EB with a few bolt-ons makes for a quick truck. There's been quite a few of them that turned out lowwww 13's with just the tune and trapped 100+mph.

BTW, you will be the only one I've seen on any of the Chevy forums I've been to, that will have a SSI tuned 14+ Silverado/GMC in any engine configuration.

Yes sir and I was one of them as you know already. But I am so much more happier with my new chevy, I just love the way it drives. Oh and I don't have the vibration in this one like the other 4 trucks I drove. I was really pumped over that.

Yes I'm hoping to be tuned by him either tomorrow or next week. Looking forward to working with him again on my third truck.

I'll admit I'm biased....but Shawn is a genius. The diablo tune is "claimed" to not change any of the CVN's....if that's true I'll be all over it. I'm not worried about the flash counter...but the CVN change is pretty well known to most dealerships.

I cannot wait to see what the 6.2L does with his tunes.

I thought all fx4's had the 3.73 gears?

Edit- they started to give you gear choice options for the 2013 fx4's

They can see if its been tuned and if it requires anything major they need to send GM a pic of the flash counter screen shot or the work will not be paid for by GM. (GDS vehicles)
