Sealing up the tailgate

I added an Access Cover tonneau cover to my 2011 Sierra recently and noticed that there is a pretty good gap all the way around the tailgate. I didn't think it would be that big a deal until a recent trip home from the grocery store down a gravel road. Everything was covered in dust. So I need to do something to close this up. My '03 Sierra did not have this big a gap around the tail gate. So it was never an issue. Just wondering if anyone has used the Access TrailSeal gasget or if there is a different option to take care of this?

Thanks!

Door and Window weather stripping. Get the rubberized self-adhering type and it's the same stuff for 1/3 the cost.

I need to do this as well. And completely ditch this garbage extang blackmaxx... snap tonneau covers are the worst.

Thanks for the input guys. I checked my home improvement store and couldn't find anything that looked like it would work. So I went ahead and ordered the Trailseal. Put it on last night and it seems to do a good job. Only thing I noticed is that there is still a large gap at the top of the tailgate on each side. Looks like since the lip at the back of the bed flares in at the top, it leaves a big gap and the Trailseal isn't thick enough to cover it. Any ideas or did I put the stuff on wrong? Thanks.

You did it right ....or we both did it wrong. I pulled the top in as far as I could but I couldn't figure out how to seal that last couple of inches. Other than that, it works pretty well and holds up to a lot of dirt and saw dust from moving stuff in and out of the bed.

Anyone install the tailgate seal that has a spray in bed liner? My Line X was sprayed so that it wraps around and goes all the way down towards the hitch.

I have wondered how to attach the seal to the liner, even along the bed rails.

Even if you seal the tailgate you will still get a bed full of dust as I found out. The dust comes into bed under the rails which have huge openings to the outside. Check out the bed seal kit from the same company. I just installed a similar kit with the foam pieces and should know in a week if it worked.

The Access tonneau cover you put on, the company offers a great tailgate seal kit as well.

For me, it is really a non issue. Cover or not, I live in gravel roads, and I have tried seal kits and a lot of dust still makes it in, either thru drain holes. stake pocket side holes, whatever. I guess I could seal everything up tight, but then drainage is usually a problem. I have had tailgates freeze up in winter with the seal kit on. A little moisture in that area, and you will fight opening a tailgate and most likely tear the seal kit all up in the process.
