Have you Sold/Traded your 2014 Because of Problems?

No I haven't traded mine in YET!!!! I will be. I purchased mine in Oct 2013 and have had problems from day one. I am disappointed with the truck. I previously owned a 2000 and 2007 and would take either one back in a minute. I talked to a GM rep about my issues and he asked if I had test drove the truck. I said yes for about two miles. I thought what the heck I have confidence GM made another good truck. I had no complaints with the previously owned GM trucks and was totally happy with them. He proceeded to lecture me on how to test drive and how long I should have tried it out .......like for at least 3 or 4 hours. Anyway.... that conversation with him is another story and also help convince me that maybe a change of manufacturer is in store. GM has repaired all but one of my problems and that is with the headlights. It is disappointing when you pay $50,000 for a truck and you have trouble driving it at night because of the poor headlights. I have had the headlights set 3 times and still they are terrible. Low beam is fine (when they are set right) and high beam is a joke. The lights are no brighter when you put the high beams on. The last time I had them set they told me that if I wasn't happy with them now , I would have to look at purchasing aftermarket lights......well whats with that!!!! So now after the last headlight adjustment , when I am driving on low beam, I have most oncoming traffic flashing there high beams at me..... thinking I have mine on high beam.

I will have to say though.... I am happy with the fuel economy, how quiet it is and the increased horsepower. I will also be test driving new trucks for a longer period of time, as suggested by the GM rep...... because it won't be another GM

I work at the local GM dealership and have had nothing but problems with the '15 Sierra I had. Seat problems and the vibration issue at 70mph+. After three sets of tires...both Goodyear and Bridgestone H/L,countless road force balances, motor mounts shimmed, rear end pretty much rebuilt and two drive lines the truck still had the problem. Started at 400 miles. The dealer...my employer said I could trade it in and they would give me top dollar... Lol! Yeah top dollar was a joke! I talked to a friend who is a attorney and he said file Lemon Law but it would take a while. Well I went down to the RAM store that I also used to work at and bought a '14 1500 crew Lonestar and I'M IN LOVE! I have a lot of Dodges but all were diesels. The best part is they swapped me out pretty much even....I owe $111.27 more than I did on my Sierra. My dealer (employer) didn't even ask me why I went to a RAM when they saw it parked at the dealership. Tooooo many people in my area are believing the Jack ass service writers when they claim it's just because of the road or because GM has added so much payload cap to these trucks. I'd love to tell all these folks but I'm sure that would end up whith me outta a job.

I've decided to live with mine until my extended warranty is up (6 years/90,000 miles). I had planned to keep this truck at least for 150-200k miles but I'm already disappointed with another first year run and I'm kicking myself for buying it. I Should have bought a used vehicle for a few years and then got the new silverado after the kinks have been worked out. Either way I'm dumping this thing after the warranty period and I'm going to give Toyota, Ford, and Dodge more consideration next time. GM just isn't what it used to be. I thought they had turned a corner the last few years but this truck is worse than my 2007.

Im one of those that researches everything endlessly, I was going the same as you with my 08 Sierra. Then I started hearing about problems and found this site, great thing I did. Ill be driving my 08 for many more years, as I know GM will not fix most of these current problems on the 14s. Nothing better then a trouble free 08 thats paid off, NOTHING!

Well Im glad in your case your 2008 is in good shape. I had the pleasure of having the transmission break on my 2007 3 months out of warranty and at 85,000 miles and it cost me $2200 to fix. All speakers in the truck died at 40,000 miles and GM wanted $150 per speaker to replace.......I went aftermarket. The latch to open the center console snapped off after 30,000 miles because you operate it by bending the plastic.....a child could tell you that would eventually wear out and break. The straw that broke the camels back was the oil consumption issue at 98,000 miles. That's when I said I'm done with that lemon. I researched the 2014 design hard before I even considered buying another one and decided it was pretty solid. Transmission has been a design in use for a while now and the engine should not have oil consumption problems since they fixed that years back.

But I wish I had found this site first because I definitely would not have bought it. I was a day away from signing the papers on a Tacoma and decided to look at these one more time. Honestly my wife and I both said what are the chances of a new truck also being a lemon and after analyzing everything over dinner decided it's stupid to think negatively like that and that the odds were good it would be fine. I regret not listening to my gut and going with the Tacoma. Or actually I wish I would have hung on to my 2007 longer and maybe been in a position to check out a 2015 that might be better. GM seems to just struggle with first editions. But I was worried the engine would break at any moment. Maybe what I'm going through now is karma for trading it in and not telling the salesman it was consuming oil. I figured as a Chevy dealer they should know and buyer beware.

But I bought this in February and while it's still new, I don't even enjoy it. I'm pretty much pissed off about it all the time. I need this vibration issue fixed before I can ever start to enjoy anything about it again.

Yes it was the first year run of the previous body style. And it had a 4 speed transmission which was nice! Other than the breaking part.....

I wouldn't say thats out of the ordinary for them to break at that mileage, I've seen it happen to alot of other manufacturers.

I just bailed on GM. Picked this up on Monday.

anyqa4yh.jpgI drove one..and while I liked tte power of the motor.. the trans was horrible, there were drive line clunks and shutters that drove me insane, doors are made of thee cheapest most flimsy metal known to man.. while I liked a couple things about ford (2012 ecoboost) I could never own one..driving it made me not so unhuppy with my silverado.

Congrats on getting out of your truck. I was asked to post about my new Tundra Platinum that I traded my truck for. The good and the bad. So far I have not had one issue at all except when the JBL radio is cranked up you can hear some interior bits vibrate. Otherwise the mileage is as expected but I knew that going in. I don't miss my seat moving and almost anticipate it when I go around corners where it used to shift on me. The ride is comparable and there is no vibration at all in the drivetrain. The Entune system is nice but like my Silverado takes some getting used to. I do like that when you hang up on a call it goes back to the home screen. The heated seats are very warm and the cooled seats pretty chilly. Overall I am extremely satisfied with trading out. It was the best thing I did even though it cost a couple grand. My neighbor just picked up a new Tundra also after looking at and driving mine. He came out of a Denali pickup and so far has not one complaint. I explained my problems with the Silverado and he wanted none of that so he went the route I did. That is at least one person I hope I helped to not make the mistake I did.

Not yet. I was tempted to sell and buy a Ram 1500 with the diesel but figured i'd lose a bunch of money. The service manager did just get me a free 5 year 75k mile bumper to bumper extended warranty with no deductible to make up for all the repeated trips to the dealer for warranty work.

What about the inconvenience? I was tired of taking off work to drop off and pick up, and no fix for all of the problems. I had a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty that didn't mean nothing if I have to take a new truck to dealer constantly with no resolution. I've had zero issues with my Tundra, and the drivability is superior. My seat doesn't move around on every corner, my rear end doesn't sound like it is about to fall out, I have NO vibration at speed, it is not trying to figure out which gear to be in, and it makes that 5.3 feel like a 6 cyl. Best decision I've made in awhile. Oh, by the way, just received a GMC safety recall for the "may catch on fire" in the mail. LOL Glad it is GONE. No more "We are sorry to hear you are having trouble". What a joke

yes - one thing GM may look at is some people actually use these vehicles to get back and forth to work carrying tools and such. Why is it the rentals are all either small SUVs or cars neither you can stand a full toolbox up in ;)

Never owned a Ford until this week

    • same here , i have a 2020 first gen and the cost to repair these engines far excedes replacement
    • But Grumpy I did show several subdivisions that had homes starting in the 170K range. If you bought a Townhouse or Condo you could go cheaper. Same with a car 3000 dollars in the 70s translates to around 20K today. There are several models at that price. You actually get more for the money. In the 70s I drove a 3000$ car bought a 28K home and made 4.50 per hour. Thank goodness for overtime. Today I could buy a 170K house drive a 20K car and make 25 dollars an hour operating the same machine today. The difference the house, car, machine would be better and have AC. And I wouldn’t be taxed on overtime. And statistically your wife works too. Easing the burden. I thought we agreed to disagree. I brought receipts earlier, showing examples. I think you’re more stubborn than me. I was done with this debate.
    • I’m definitely interested to hear the end result here.
    • My 2025 Silverado 1500 had to receive a brand-new engine (long block) under warranty last month at only around 16,500 miles. Before the replacement, the truck repeatedly displayed "Engine Oil Level Low" warnings, even though the Oil Life Monitor still showed around 50% remaining after about 6,000 miles since my last oil change. After seeing the warning several times, I checked the dipstick with the engine cold, and the oil level was completely normal. The next day, the message escalated to "Add Engine Oil." At first, I assumed it was just a faulty oil level sensor, so I brought the truck to the dealership. After inspecting the engine, they found internal cylinder wall scoring and ultimately replaced the entire long block under warranty. Before this happened, I was planning to install a 4-inch lift and suspension upgrade on my truck. After needing a new engine at just 16,500 miles, I honestly don't see the point anymore. I also contacted GM to ask whether my vehicle qualified for a buyback, but I was informed that it does not at this time. Anyway, this experience has left me with serious concerns about the long-term reliability of this engine. I sincerely hope NHTSA expands the current investigation or recall to include 2025 model and performs a thorough inspection of affected vehicles. My biggest concern is that these engines may fail shortly after the powertrain warranty expires. If GM truly stands behind this engine, then at the very least, please consider extending the powertrain warranty to 10 years for affected owners. That would go a long way toward restoring customer confidence.
    • Without exception but then I'm the odd duck, right? I know what goes into that test, how it is calculated and thus how to beat it. But EPA values are often not beaten by the general public and the government has in past years adjusted the means and methods to come to those values to more closely approximate "Joe Average".    The only real trick to beating that EPA average is don't drive like "Joe Average".    It's the same method you used to profit from "Economic Migration" and in doing so beat the 'stats'. But you, like me, are not "Joe Average".     The thing you don't seem to grasp is this "Purchasing Power Index" isn't forward looking. It doesn't predict what it going to be but looks backward and states what it was. They are not telling us what the THINK, they are telling us what they MEASURED. Example:    Wife says "I'm going to lose 40 pounds by Christmas". May she does, maybe she doesn't but the doctors office who weighed her when she made that statement and again at Christmas only REPORTS what the RESULT was. You and I can banter about what was possible and what aunt Tilly did till the cows come home but the result is the result. Arguing otherwise is.....irrational. That's all I'm saying. This isn't about:      What you are calling a 'Statistic' is a RESULT not a CALCUATION and as a result the RULE. Like gravity as a rule, it can not be broken.
