Bug Deflector Help

Hi All

Long time no posts...Sorry bout that

I have had the GM OEM bug deflector on my SD for 2 years, and I hated it. It fastened with 2 clips on the ends and taped to the paint.

One day the tape let loose at 75mph and scratched my paint on the hood.

I took it off and trashed it.

I am looking at a new one.

I don't want the same mounting technique.

I want one that uses screws under the hood.

I have read some older conflicting posts here and want to get some new facts

Does the "WeatherTech Stone & Bug Deflector" use screws?

Any info or stories or other brands anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

And...do there 2 bug deflectors cover the crome trim on the hood?

Notice this picture of the GM OEM deflector, that has a cut out to show the chrome trim.

I don't want to loose that if at all possible.

WeatherTech stuff is generally very well designed / made.

I'm reasonably happy with mine.

It attaches with screws into plastic inserts (which are inserted into existing holes in hood).

only way you are going to get a deflector that doesn't cover the hood piece is if you get the GM one that you got rid of or the AVS aeroskin that tapes to the hood which you don't want also. Any other deflector will cover the chrome hood piece.

I've had the AVS unit for 100,000 miles and no issues. It mounts with plastic studs in the factory holes under the hood front lip, does not touch the outside paint at all. It sits far enough out that you can wash under it.

None of them are necessary. It's just going to f*** up the aerodynamics of the truck that $$$ was put into making optimum. Scrap it entirely. As a plus, you won't have wind buffeting noises around the windshield. If you must get one, get the bugflector from amazon.com. That way, with their liberal return policy, you can return it when you realize that it' s a waste. That's what I did.
