2014 GMC Sierra key fob/seat setting question

Sorry if this topic has already been addressed but couldn't find a search tool anywhere to check so here goes. I have a new 2014 Sierra SLT and I'm trying to find out how Auto Memory Recall works. I know that if its turned on my seat moves to a pre-determined setting when I open the door, but the setting it moves to is neither my 1 or 2 setting. Its some other third setting. How can I make it change to my "home" setting 1? Thanks

Look in this thread, scroll down to post 12 and 13. There are a number of ways you can set it sepending upon whether you want the exit mode part set or just different settings for key fob 1 and 2. I have 1 set for me and 2 set for my wife, but I had to first determine which FOB was 1 or 2.

By the way, I just used that search box at the top and searched on seat memory. Hope this helps. I guess I should clarify that I am using the browser page and the search box is at the top right - it says GM-Trucks.com to its left.

Thanks. Sorry I didnt see that search box. I just reviewed the thread and it makes reference to pressing the K on the RKE Transmitter.

I have no clue what that is.

The owners manual tells you how and what the letters mean..

Thanks for asking the question because I wasn't even aware that the seat setting was linked to the Key FOB. Looks like I have another toy to figure out and play with.

I just figured out that the feature works perfectly with my key fob 2 but does not work at all with key fob 1.

It must have to do with the fact that when I picked up my truck new from the dealer they only had one key and key fob, (fob2).

They had to cut me a new key and I had to go back a few days later to get my second one which they programmed on the spot. (assuming fob 1) I'm guessing they did not program it correctly becuase that one does not adjust my seat when I use it to access the truck. Any ideas on how I can get that one to work with my setting 1 setting?

The "k" is the unlock button. It is in the Owners Manual as a picture and for some reason gets translated to be a k.

 

As far as the fob 1 issue, I would take both fobs back to the dealer and make sure they are both setup properly. It sounds like 1 isn't set up correctly to me. But, in my experience, when they fix 1, they could mess up 2. So have them make sure both work properly.

I too am having an issue with the automatic memory recall via the key fob and I'm hoping someone here can set me straight because I have to be doing something wrong. I cannot make it work.

 

I have the auto memory recall option set to on.

I have the Exit function set to off (I've had it set both ways).

I've read the manual so often for this issue it opens to the seat setting options whenever I open the manual :-)

 

I have set "1" to my seating position

I have set "2" to my wife's seating position (drastically different)

If I enter the vehicle and press either 1 or 2 on the door panel while the truck is running and in park, the seats, mirrors and pedals move to the correct set position for 1 or 2

 

If I use either key fob to unlock the truck, the seats stay where they are when I open the door. If they were set for setting 2 and I use either key fob, the seats do not move. The same thing happens when I have the door open and press the unlock button on the key fobs. It makes no difference which key fob I'm using. The seats simply do not react to the key fob. (By seats I mean all the pre-set positions).

 

I hope this makes sense. I had a 2004 Sierra with memory seats and the function worked perfectly for 10 years. Am I doing something wrong or am I missing something? One question that is not clear to me is how you identify key fob 1 from 2 other than trial and error. There is no ID on the fob itself. The 2004 had it clearly marked.

 

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks all....

I understand exactly what you're saying - they are not marked, but are supposed to be programmed as 1 or 2. I think this is where a lot of issues are. I had to determine which key fob is 1 and which one is 2. I made sure that button 1 and 2 settings were completely different. And had to test each one to see which was 1 and which one was 2. As I recall here is what I did...

 

I set my normal setting on button 1 (pressing "set" and 1 at the same time) and set button 2 very different. I turned Auto Memory Recall ON and Easy Exit OFF. I manually moved my seat all of the way back and up.

 

Then I locked the truck. I used one of the key fobs to unlock the door and then opened the door. I could see that the seat had moved and confirmed which location it moved to - by pressing the 1 or 2 button. I moved the seat all of the way back and up again manually. I locked the door using the same key fob.

 

Then, I used the other key fob to unlock the door and repeat the same process. I was able to determine which one was 1 and 2 and now they are set.

 

The manual says if the key fobs are not recalling the seat position, do to the dealer.

Chuck, thanks for the very detailed procedure you followed to get your auto memory recall working.

 

I followed your process exactly and unfortunately, I still have the problem. In my case, the recall process does not respond to either key fob. The seat remains where it was last positioned after unlocking the door with either key fob and opening the door. According to the manual, if the door is already opened, and you press the unlock button on the fob, the seat should move to the appropriate setting. In my case it does nothing... Since there's no reaction to the fob, there's no way for me to identify fob 1 from fob 2. Very frustrating.

 

My 2004 worked perfectly from day one. I guess I'll have to bring it to the dealer.

      The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.

      Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.

      I can't believe that could possibly be the case. It should be 36mo/100k miles from installation. Then again, it also seems like since a dealership installed it, it'd all be in the system and you wouldn't need to worry about registering, either. Shows you what I know. 😄 Hope this one outlives the warranty!

      I haven't seen inventory recovery from COVID.    In the few random times I 'build my own' truck or SUV, no one has the exact one I want.   GM has been working to lower incentives too for a long time.    A $500 incentive isn't getting me off the couch to go truck shopping.
