So are the rear seats leather? I can tell the front is but is the rear seat vinyl in a $52000 truck?

The "leather appointed" seats in our cars are really made from cowhide on the seating surfaces, with the balance made from naugahyde.

The nauga is the hairless male of the species, prized for its skin, used to make naugahyde, while the female, called a faux, is highly sought after for her thick, luxurious fur which can be dyed virtually any color, often seen on 1970s Lincoln Town Cars and 1970s Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado convertibles. You see, the nauga are very trusting, and, even in the wild can be walked up to and picked up to be petted, (they love that). They are very easy to raise, being about 40 lbs, and resemble their cousins the capybara.

PETA is asking that GM stop the needless slaughter of nauga's and return to using the byproducts from our insatiable need to consume beef. :driving:

For the last couple of years on the center seating section of the rears was leather. I wouldn't be surprised if it is synthetic now though. If I ever get to a point of where the stock seat covers need replacing it will be a set of Katz Skins for me for the front and rear.

They're top notch. 100% real top grain leather. A LOT of the custom shops use them.

When GM (and most other manufacturers) went to leather "seating surfaces", it was a big turn-off to me. Pay for leather get vinyl. Remember when vinyl was the low end offering for car upholstery? Now it's the top? WTF??

Im pissed I really cn't believe I paid the premium for SLY and got vinyl :fume: so for the SLT the only upside is the AC front seats and LED DRL

I have an SLT All Terrain that cost me extra on top of the SLT for vinyl on half the seat. It really pisses me off that half the seat is plastic.

I'm half tempted to take it to an upholstery shop and have the seats recovered.

Go for it! Get them re-done in REAL leather and sell the original covers. You'd probably get most of your money back.

When I bought my 2014 Sierra, 'leather' was at bottom of my want list. The 05 Sierra SLT I traded in had "leather" front buckets but full vinyl rear bench for ext. cab. Talk about a rip off!! Now, at least on the 2014 SLT CC you get 'leather' rear seating surface. Does SLT or LTZ double cab have 'leather' rear bench? That 'leather' wore great on the 05 as @ 116k miles it still wasn't broken in. Seriously cheap stuff IMO.

Im ok with leather they use. Its relatively thick and durable. Comfort of the leather vs the durability is always a balancing act. My 08 had 140k on it with two dogs romping around most of that time. You couldn't tell by looking at it. It held up exceptionally well IMO.
