Think I'm almost done tapping. Hard to see do to clearances, using my phone to see in the spot. Gotta say aluminum sure does tap easy! Using lots of lithium grease on the tap to catch the metal, seems to be catching a lot.(plenty of people on various auto sites said it worked well for them rather than opening the engine)

A thought: let it run for a second with the spark plug out to blow out any shavings that might have escaped? Think it might be better that nothing.

That's what I've always done - only needs to fire a couple seconds. Grease catches most of it, so just make sure you have it all cleaned up first.

Got an insert in. There is no room to tap it in so if I have to replace the heli coil every plug change, big deal, another couple of dollars. The long one wouldn'y fit, the tap wouldn't go any further. Once you get it tight, the plug bites into the insert and back out with it. If it's loose its not in far enough to tap it. Can't win. In 24 hours I'll know if it worked. If not I'll call the Napa shop for an estimate.

If it does work I'm wondering if I should keep it. That engine swap just isn't going to happen for long enough I don't want it sitting around. If one plug blew out sho knows how long before another could. I guess I could buy a top end kit, but on a engine with 220k miles?

Fixture time is 20 min at room temps. It's been an hour at 100 degrees so I let it run for 5 seconds. Ran normal, so I guess the shorter threads worked after all.

Well ran it hard yesterday, drove it to work today, everything is still great. Glad it was a simple fix. And I still have the kit and plenty of thread locker if another one quits

Got groceries, cleaned some stuff off on the door panel. I thought I ordered a Six pack of the plug inserts, but so got one. Turns out amazon only sells a single pack. I got the PN from a auto parts website that only sells the six pack. The difference between the PNs are an extra 6 I didn't notice. Oops. Well, I doubt two will fail at the same time.

There was a nice silver K2XX Sierra parked near me when I left the store.

Test fit some 15x8 rims I found. not sure if I'm going to mount slicks or find some 15x7 for the front and get matching dog dish hub caps...

You found? As in laying around or for sale?

How often do you race it? I thought it was your just your cruiser.

Been thinking hang about some Torque Thrust II myself. I want to keep the sleeper look whenever/if I get around to the go fast stuff, but the stock wheels aren't looking so great. Might just have them refinished, there is a shop a few miles from work that does it.

Found, I was cleaning out a shed on my grandpa's property and they were inside. Noticed they were old police rims off a 70's Chrysler. For the most part it's just a cruiser, but I have taken it to the track a few times now. I have a spare 8 3/4 rear with 4.10's, so if I ever feel like drag racing I can swap gears in about an hour at the track (or at home and put up with the high rpms and bad fuel economy for the hour long drive) and take it down the track all weekend.

Cool find. The right person(someone restoring an old police car) might want those rims badly.

Reinstalling the front sway bar on my Z28 after the oil pan gasket change was a huge pain. Three of the bolts took way too much effort to tighten once they were a few threads in. I pulled them out over and over thinking a thread was getting stripped but every time they looked fine, I figure I'll have to cut them out or re thread the hole if I ever have to remove it again.
