Wow, I bet the diesel guys are gonna LOVE this, on purpose or not, it makes "coal rollers" look like complete idiots.

 

Look at the pics, read the quotes from them. One says FU to clean air....OK, the guy is probably a big smoker and vacations in Chinese Industrial towns. Really, they find the one guy who WANTS polluted air to breathe?

 

Also, they seem to want people to start reporting "coal rollers" to police. But not just coal rollers, people with aftermarket exhaust, really.

 

I might not be a black cloud fan, but this is a pretty slanted piece

lol that article sounds like it was written by a 70 year old grandpa who yells at people to stay off his lawn.

 

Its kinda funny though, we get a lot of mid 90's to early 2000's cummins at my shop that love to do that stuff. Most of the trucks are in pretty bad shape because of their age and the owners wont buy new ones because of all that " new fangled emissions crap" and the prices of the newer diesels.

 

They only have themselves to blame for the EPA cracking down. Here its a big deal if you remove the DPF and DEF systems and comes with a hefty fine if someone reports it.

Saw that video on CNN and it was pretty sad on what they were doing to people walking down the side of the road cars driving behind them and they even got a motorcycle putting his safety at risk and they wonder why they come up with new laws because morons like this create them, hell they even got a police car also. The EPA and law makers will be jumping all over this.

they are complete idiots..and they will be the first ones who whine and cry when their state makes it mandatory to submit to yearly smog inspection. here in CA they would be classified as a GROSS POLLUTER and taken off the road by CHP and a tow truck until repaired, and reinspected, and fines paid. i'm not a fan of some of our smog laws here, but i have seen a real big difference in air quality here in the last 30+ years...to the rest of the lower 48, your day is coming sooner than you will like...

Eh I don't see it... The tractor I drive at work has a DPF that has to be refilled with hog piss every 25 hours or so. You can't tell me that's required because of people seeing tractors rolling coal. My understanding is that much of the exhaust filtering is to remove NOx, which is mostly from engines running lean so they don't smoke. That said it pisses me off when I'm driving down the highway and I see a pickup (usually Powerstroke) belching smoke going downhill. If I'm walking down a sidewalk and someone shoots soot on me I'll get pissed then too.

 

As far as the tractor with DEF, it's a nuisance and the lease will be up soon, can't wait to ditch the POS. Does worse on fuel than older ones and that hog piss is pricey.

 

Something else, if the people with hybrids are so genuinely concerned about the environment, why don't they all back it down? Most I see drive 80. :jester:

      There was talk over the last couple of years that the contract to build these trucks between GM and International would not be renewed.  International moved production of all their other trucks besides the companion CV model out of the Springfield plant some time ago when they opened their San Antonio plant.  That left Springfield only building the Silverado Medium Duty, International CV Series, and some Express/Savanna long wheelbase cutaways.  International also put the plant up for sale some time ago.  This all answered my earlier question as to why GM and International did nothing with these trucks since they were introduced, as they had basically become a market 'placeholder' with a finite life.    The Silverado Medium Duty/International CV trucks were interesting combination of a GM powertrain, electrical system, and K2XX Silverado cab with an International chassis that was supposedly designed for a step-van type vehicle they never produced.  They were manufactured in International's Springfield plant along with the IH MV series initially.  When first introduced, there was much talk that the Silverado Medium Duty/CV would eventually get a gasoline engine option along with other upgrades and GM and IH would work on a class 6/7 joint venture truck.  This was before VW bought Navistar out, after that happened no more was said.  Draw your own conclusions...   About the time talk started that the GM/IH joint venture was not going to be renewed, rumors started that GM would develop a new line of medium duty trucks themselves.  The story is the new trucks will be part of the next generation HD's due in 2028, and will still feature a 'straight rail' chassis design that the current medium duty has.  GM views this as a desirable feature that differentiates their truck from the competition.  A gasoline engine option is also expected.  As the current Silverado Medium Duty remains in production until September 2026 and there is still a lot of inventory available do not expect any official word for some time.   I believe GM remains committed to their successful partnership with Isuzu, and all the LCF models will still be available from Chevy Commercial dealers.  Isuzu is on the cusp of opening a new large plant in South Carolina and there is also speculation that this may result in new product for both Isuzu and Chevy Commercial dealers.

      I have a 2026 2500 HD Ultimate. My phone app says there’s a software update available. It’s something about improved battery management and something to do with the running boards. I follow the instructions for the update but the “Check for Updates” option is greyed out in my settings menu. Has anyone else seen this? How did you resolve it? The help message just says “see your dealer” if the download doesn’t work. I’m just trying to save a trip.

      Fuel mileage?  That's all how you use your right foot.  Exhaust will give you sound.   Stock exhaust 5.3 is 2.75" diameter piping.     If the truck is nice and worth putting some $$ into it, I'd go for a Corsa catback.  I had one on my 2019 old body 5.3 and it was just perfect.  Zero drone, just driving around and cruising on the highway you'd think it was stock, but when you opened it up it was like a Camaro with the factory dual mode.  Corsa bumps their catback to 3in diameter.
