Front Diff Weeping fluid

Recommended Posts

So i crawled under my truck yesterday to change the front diff fluid and it appears to be leaking fluid where the drives side axle shaft connects to the diff. I am i assumeing correct that this will be fixed under my powertrain warranty. I hope this dosen't take 3 differnt trips to the dealer plus about 4 days of the truck in the shop for them to get right. So has anyone else had this problem on there truck?

Yep. Had the exact same pinion seal replaced on mine right before the 3-year "bumper-to-bumper" warranty expired. It was "sweating" at the seal joint. I don't believe this will be covered by the powertrain warranty, but I may be wrong. A year and a half later, it is doing the same thing.

If you are going to change the fluid anyway, you could just buy the $5 seal and replace it yourself and know it's done. I just replaced mine a little over a month ago and it was fast and easy. The hardest part was unbolting the axle shaft...which wasn't very hard at all. I only jacked it up just to rotate the shaft for the unbolting. I was done in less than an hour including the bs session I had with a neighbor.
