Clear Bra using Plasti Dip?

Recommended Posts

I was just curious if anyone has used the Plasti Dip Glossifier as a clear bra yet? If so, how do you like it, and can you post pictures?

I have been. I've been meaning to post pics, will do so ASAP. Bottom line is that after a couple of months it does seem to work. It certainly doesn't look as nice as a clear bra since it's nowhere near as glossy. It's kinda like glossy clear rubber if you can imagine that, I did use glossifier which I would recommend. It sorta makes washing tougher. I say tougher because it's surprisingly "grippy", so just getting a wash mitt to run over it is rather annoying. No impossible though. However, for reasons I don't get just yet bugs, etc don't actually seem to stick to it as well so it needs less scrubbing. The uncoated areas on the front always seem to have more sticking to them while the lower bumper is relatively clean. I've never had anyone notice it or ask about it. And I've had a LOT of people check out the truck.

So, it works, probably isn't as durable over the years, doesn't look quite as good (though not bad at all), but it's haaaard to argue with the price.

Word! My dealership is doing a "Wash for Delivery" (basically a wash and detail) this weekend, so I'll probably do it Sunday. I have a piece of butcher block board that is covered with clear resin, like a bar counter top, and when I tested it on there I couldn't even see the stuff. So I'm surprised that it shows on your truck. But like you said you cant argue with the price. My wheels are black now for 1/10 of what powder coating would have cost.

Hard to describe. It is "clear", but the surface finish is obviously not clear coat. Kinda looks like, I dunno, frosted glass maybe?

Please post photos. Thanks.

On dipyourcar.com's youtube page, the main guy said to hold your can closer with the gloss. This would give it a smoother look, and less texture. I'll post some pictures Sunday, after I do mine.

why, would you want to use a spray coating as front bra paint protection versus proper film? just curious.

<$10 vs hundreds. cheap, quick and while probably not as effective as a bra, still would provide some protection.

Plasti-dip is good stuff. I did my Wife's wheels on her Cruze in black, and her bowties in red. I plan to use it on my rims in the winter on my truck whenever I buy a new set.

Only peck I've had in 2+ months. It appears to be down to the paint, but no further. So, proof it DOES protect. Considering the pecks I was getting, I'm quite pleased.

How many coats did you do?

How many coats did you do?

3 coats of clear + 1 coat of glossifier. Tried to go "closer" on glossifier, but let's face it, the perfect coat is hard to achieve.
