What would y'all say is the best intake to improve both mpg and hp on a 5.3l 08 chevy silverado

Look at the Airraid MIT. The stock intake on the silverados is pretty good. The tube will help

Will do thanks and do you think that cherry bomb vortex cat back will help mpg and hp

There is no best. Its personal preference. Check out the blackbear article on here about it

Blackbear Dynos showed most improvement from the MIT, with a paper filter. Can't beat it for the price. It is a little noisy on my truck though.

I have the MIT with aftermarket dry filter..it's definitely a bit louder, little better throttle response..

My MIT Will be for sale soon, after a 5hr trip this weekend at 80mph listening to it rumble... Doesn't bother most people, but it's too much for me!

I did not notice a fuel mileage change when I did my Airaid MIT or my Borla muffler. I keep a fuel log and have real numbers and saw no real change. I average 18.5 on long runs, 16 combined and 15 to 14 around town. If you like the sound of a 1970's car or truck with the air cleaner flipped over to hear the 4 barrel carb, that's what you will get with the MIT. It can be really annoying when you are between 2 and 3000 rpm climbing a long hill. All the performance books say the truck boxes flow pretty good. As far as the Borla muffler goes (GM Performance), I love the sound and its not annoying. Borla service is also top notch.

The truck air box design is perfect, it actually does not flow. The air box pulls cool air from the wheel well, it then passes through the air filter, after the filter is where the restriction begins.

The problem is the restricted air flow from traveling through the maze of noise canceling chambers in the OEM intake tube.

The AirAid Modular Intake Tube (MIT) solves that problem with unrestricted smooth air flow.
