Auto Tilt mirrors issue

Recommended Posts

I experienced an issue with my auto tilting mirrors twice this weekend. Both times I was backing a boat down a long ramp. The mirrors tilted down to start with but at some point while still backing they tilted back up to the normal angle. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there some internal timeout on the tilt mirrors? Do you know of any way to resolve this issue?

I do not know how to fix it, but mine do the same thing. If I am backing out of my driveway and have to wait very long for traffic, the side mirrors will tilt back to the original position while still in reverse.

It's an internal timeout. Like 45 seconds or so. I'm not aware of any way to change this.

I just noticed this issue for the first time this weekend. I was backing a trailer into tight quarters and taking advantage of the tilt-down mirrors to monitor the location of the trailer wheels. All of the sudden the mirrors tilted up. I thought it was a fluke but apparently it's a common occurrence.

Since my mirrors take FOREVER to tilt and then tilt back up, I just added small round mirrors that stick onto the main mirror. Give me the perfect angle to see down the side of the truck/trailer at ground level for backing and still have the main mirror for up high. That's the only resolution I can offer.

Yes, mine does the same thing... I think the time-out is set to 60 seconds. Not sure why GM engineers designed it this way.

I checked today and mine did this too. 35 seconds and back to normal. Only settings are all off, only driver on, only passenger on, both on. Nothing about delay.

GM states that this is normal and they do not plan to change it. They did also state that if you are maintaining a speed of 5 mph or greater in reverse, they will not tilt back up.

I would think that the only way to change it would be by changing the programming in the BCM. You would have to contact Chris on the board (GTPPrix) to see if he can do it.
