Dash rattle solved

I have the same problem. What is that piece? It doesn't seem to do anything.

I have the same problem. What is that piece? It doesn't seem to do anything.

It's a little plastic peice that swings back and forth hitting other plastic areas. Like a small 1 inch on the right hand side closer to passenger. This was driving me nuts until I places some double sided sticky tape and no more noise.

As much as we want to trivialize those squaks and rattles, they can be extremely annoying. I know that the squeak I had in my '09 Impala was unbearable and I was happy when I found the source - a loose trim panel with a metal clip that was not fully seated. It sqeaked horribly every time I hit even the slightest bump in the road. GM uses these metal slips to secure many trim pieces and if thsoe slips are not fully seated, they rub against the metal seat and cause extremely annoying squeaking noise.

Ok, I have a rattle in my passanger side dash that is not associated with the sunglass holder issue on this thread. It appears only when the temperature is 65°F or above and does not rattle when it is cold. With this said, it appears to be in the glove box area as I can remove the lower glove box and it goes away. Chevy has replaced the glove box 2 times and then stated they tighted up bolts where the dash meets the pillar.

Rattle still there. I have pulled both glove boxes out and cannot see any loose plastic pieces or wiring that would cause this. The rattle is not there when the glove boxes are out so im assuming it has to do with the plastic contracting when its cold and expanding when its warm causing the rattle.

While driving down the road I can open the top glove box and put pressure on the bottom of it and the rattle goes away. I have put sticky back insulation, felt pads everywhere I can think of and the rattle still re-appears. Has anyone else experienced this rattle if so what and how was if fixed?

It sounds like it is indeed what you described. You can try putting electrical tape on contact areas and see if that works. Also, check the A/C shroud under the glove box. That drove me nuts for a while until I stuck some padding between the cover. It's directly under the glove box, on the center console side.

Thanks jeffsig. I have went as far as putting sticky back insulation on all contact areas, put duct tape over all of the metal clips and yes I have also isolaed the A/C shroud under the glove box by adding padding as you described.

Yet after all of this, the rattle is still there!

I had tried the weatherstripping around that clip in the sunglasses holder, but it came loose and started rattling again. So I completely removed that clip, problem solved!

I also noticed my center console lid was rattling against the console body, so I used some black weatherstripping on the underside of the lid, now it no longer rattles.

Jeffsig, thanks for the video. Just did this and it's for sure helping a good amount to where I don't hear anything at all. Now on to the center console.

^yep, thanks Jeffsig for posting that video, I just did this the other day, now the dash rattle is gone. I had first took out the radio display and got behind there to wedge pieces under the dash, but that piece along windshield was still rattling - but not anymore!
