I went in for an oil change at the dealer, and i showed my service guy. Of course, he didnt know what it was or had never heard of anyone else with the rattle. Said he would look the piece up and let me know what it was.

When my truck was done, i got F out of there..he must have been on lunch.

Well, I had finally had enough and pulled out the small clip in my sunglass holder and.........no more rattle !!

Also, try this (you never know):

Great Vid! By the voice I'd almost swear that was Blake Shelton =)

the whole thing comes out. Leave the other one there that's next to it. The sunglasses door still stays closed without that clip. See attached pic.

I was waiting for someone to do this! Gonna happen on mine in about 5 mins.

How'd it go?

I want to pull this clip to get rid of my rattle but I don't want to pull it and then not be able to close or open my sunglasses holder.

I had the same concerns as Ive only had my truck a few months. But finally removed it and everything still works fine. Rattles are gone ! Just make sure you remove the smaller clip closest to the rear of the vehicle.

Can someone explain to me how I can get my sunglass holder to close again? I ended up taking off the plastic piece with the metal pin, then I put it back in, but now it just slides back and forth on the holder without locking it closed. Does the pin go into something? Right now it just rests on top of the plastic part with all the grease. I can't keep it closed now?

To see a clear picture of what I'm talking about, go to this link and see the first post showing a picture of it.

I also posted this question on another gm-trucks.com thread to get an answer. Right now, I'm not getting any luck.

I recently traded in my 2014 for a 2015 (couldn't pass up the price) and the clip doesn't rattle... at least not yet, but they changed the piece to one that is half the size of the 2014 model....

Still unsure what its there for.

I pulled that little black plastic pin out of the sunglass holder today as I was having the same rattle, but it didn't seem to make the rattle go away. It is still there and sounds the same. It is definitely coming from the sunglass holder area. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks in advance!

Sometimes noises play tricks on you. I solved another one on the drivers side. I pulled the fuse panel off on the drivers side and the fuse panel itself was moving slightly over rough roads. I shoved some foam blocks around it and quiet as a mouse now.

Does anyone have any insight into this? I have pushed the holder up, shoved double sided tape in there, and nothing. It is driving me nuts!!!

I did the same thing. The key is that there is a small cone shaped spring that goes between black plastic lever (with metal pin) and the plastic housing. When you removed the wrong piece it likely sprung across the cabin and landed on the floor. Mine was in the deep grooves of the rubber floor mat, driver side. I thought it was gone for good. The small diameter side of the spring should face toward the driver side of the lever post and the fat portion towards the grey plastic sunglass holder housing. That slight outward pressure on the latch is enough to grab the pivoting sunglass holder itself and cause it to latch properly.

Regarding the correct piece which no one knows the purpose, I jammed some electrical tape in the slot to keep it from moving around.

2014 GMC Sierra 1500

Ok, I had the same popping noise in my truck. It was like a ticking noise coming from the right side under the dash. It seemed to go away sometimes, but other times it was very annoying. If you push on the dash above the glove compartment, it would go away. I took both glove compartments out and it seemed to go away. I put them back in and it would come back. After dealing with this for over 2 years, I finally took time to troubleshoot the noise source. If you take the glove compartment out and look above the to compartment, you will see a round metal bar below the airbag. There is a screw that connects the plastic piece of the dash to that metal bar. Put some felt or tape between this connection and that will solve one of the problem areas. Another source of the tick was below the fuse box on the right side of the dash. If you pull the cover off the fuse panel, you will see where the plastic dash part is connected to the chassis by 2 large bolts near the bottom door hinge. This is where most of the noise came from. By loosening these 2 nuts and putting felt or masking tape between the connection fixed the problem for sure. I hope this information helps someone. It drove me crazy!
