Front View Camera

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone installed a front view camera? I have a 6" lift on 35's and it's kind of a pain in the ass to see over the hood. It would be awesome to have some sort of front view camera. Thoughts? Ideas?

My suggestions would be to install a "back up camera" that shows up on the rear view mirror and just install it on the front of your truck. Not sure how you would enable it... maybe somehow wire it to a toggle switch as rear view cameras only come on when in reverse.

I'm going to attempt to do this with a camera, 2.4 ghz wireless kit, and a 3.5" monitor.

Should I run the power from the head lamp to the camera and I'm not sure where to tap the power for the monitor from. Maybe to the one of the cigarette lighter to a switch... any ideas? Keep in mind the power for everything needs to turn off when I shut the car off.

I only need this when parking and going into tight areas.

The camera will zip tie to the grill above the GMC. I thought about a license plate camera, but it might sit too low and recessed more than I need to be able to get a full front view of the bumper.

if someone can tell me where to get power for both camera and monitor that is better than my ideas I'll do it tomorrow and post pictures and a small write up.

This kit was initially for my boat trailer, but I figured I'll test it on my truck.

I got it all from amazon. I'm working out the wiring right now. I'm going to try to tap into the fog lights for the camera power and I don't have the trailer brake option so the monitor will sit over the hole. I'll post more pictures once i get it up and working. Hopefully i tap into the correct wires. Lol.

There are a number of "wireless" backup cameras out there. They still need power. But the video is wireless. Garvin makes one that works with their gps.

ADCmobile did this, I think on last gen... New head unit and ran the rear camera into it, and ran the front camera into the rearview mirror. You could probably do it the other way too.
