Help me decide on tire size

I'm about to get a 4" McGaughey lift on my 2014 Silverado crew 4x4 and I am debating between 35's and 33's. I haven't seen many 4" lift pics, seems most people are running 2.5 or 6" lifts. I don't like the look of having most of the fender well filled with tires - I like some travel. But then again I don't want too much travel. I feel it's a fine line for the look I want. The 33's I'm considering are terra grappler 305/55/20 - the specs are 33.19" tall. The 35's I'm considering are the new open country r/t's - specs are 34.8" tall. Any input is appreciated. Please help me decide.

35's are going to look stuffed with only a 4" lift, and you may even have to do some trimming to make them fit. 33's would look good. You may also want to consider some of the more narrow (as opposed to a 305mm or a 12.50") 34" sizes, like a 295/60/20 or a 275/65/20, or in the 18" size, the 285/70/18, or 295/70/18. Those sizes will fill the wheel wells, without the extra rubbing issues associated with the wider 35" sizes.

Yeah I agree. I do think the 35's would look too stuffed which is why I was thinking 33's. I like the 12.5 width. I am looking at getting ballistic razorback 20x9 wheels the have a +12 offset so they don't stick out too far. I wonder how much trimming would be needed?

With a 4" and a fairly conservative offset like you mentioned, you should be fine. Guys are running 33x12.50x20 or 305/55/20 on stock wheels with just a 2.5" kit. You may have to trim a little of the inner fender liner, or pull them back with zip ties, but I don't see you needing to do any major surgery, lol

Sounds good. Now I just have to decide on a lift. I want a little rake, I hate the look of the front being taller than the back. Going to call McGaughey today and ask about that.

I'm with you on that one. I don't care for the 'cali lean' either. Plus, I tow occasionally, so I need a little rake when empty so it doesn't look ridiculous with a load on it, haha. If you raise the front 4", replacing the factory 1.25" block with a 4" block would raise the back 2.75". That should remove some of the rake, but still leave enough for light towing/hauling duties.

295/60/20 would look good. If you get it in a Nitto Terra Grappler then the width is a little more than 11.8" and probably so close to that 12.5" width that you want and with it being 34" tall, it would fit right in the wheel well like you want as well.

For reference, I ran 305/55 Nitto Terras on an 8.5" wide wheel with a +18 offset (pretty darn close to stock) with 5" of lift. I trimmed nothing, but tight turns into parking spots, up driveways, etc. I rubbed pretty good. But for everyday driving I didn't hit much at all.

Cant wait to see what you decide. I am in the same boat as you are. I except I am planning to run Toyo Open Country R/T 33x12.5x20's on my CC Sierra. Mounting them on some Eagle Alloy Series 014 Gloss Black with milled accents. Also putting on a 4.5" Zone off-road lift.

I called Mcgaughy and to ask about the rake - they said the lift leaves it level front and back. So I have decided on the below setup.

McGaughy 4" suspension lift

20x9 Ballistic Razorback wheels (still debating 0 or +12 offset)

305/55/R20 Nitto G2 Terra Grappler - this is the new Terra Grappler tire that just came out, technical specs are 33.23" tall and 12.44" wide.

I hope to have this done before the end of the year. Any thougths? Comments?
