2014 sierra oil calls for 0w20 but 5w30 was put in by mistake, will it hurt anything?

Weather is cooling off around here - probably better to have the recommended oil in there, but it's not the end of the world.

Although, I'm basing this on past experience .... these days it seems all bets are off. I don't have very much faith in quality automotive products anymore, so maybe this is a bigger problem than I think ...

It will not hurt anything. Just when you get a chance it would be best to change it back out to the recommened 0w-20.

The main reason for the lower viscosity oils these days is due to manufacturers needing to meet CAFE numbers. Using 5w30 in place of 0w20 will not hurt anything. The main issue is does the oil in your engine meet the manufacturers specifications? And I don't mean viscosity specs.

Note that the oil does not need to have that GM Approved label on it to meet the specs. All that GM Approved label means is that the oil manufacturer is kicking back a percentage of each bottle of that oil to GM in what they call "license fee". The oil can meet the standards without having that label.
