A big contributor is the difference in wheel and tire choice. 305/45r22's are going to ride rough no matter what shocks or what vehicle they're on. There's just not a lot of sidewall and you have a lot of unsprung weight. When I swapped wheels and tires my unsprung weight increased about 10-15lbs and I could feel it. I read your build thread and I'm suprised to hear your factory 22's weighed as much as they did. My factory 20's with the stock Conti's probably weight 40 lbs total.

Our opinions may be due to our location. Where I live the temp fluctuates big time. When it's cold I find the these shocks are more harsh, they're more bearable when its warm out. My biggest gripe is the harsh extension while going over larger bumps, which is definitely better when its warm outside.

My new 22's ride better than my stock 20's. Did you actually weigh your stock wheels? My factory all terrain 20s with good year sra's weighed 79lb when I weighed them. The stock 22's weight around 85-89lb's.

When I went back to the dealership yesterday to have my alignment redone they told me my lower ball joints have a tiny bit of play in them and that this could cause a bit of jarring. I tried prying on them and I could really see any play, but I also couldn't get a good pry bar in there. I think I'll order them anyways seeing how they're only $80 for both.

My 20's weighed around 35 lbs. My replacement 17" alloys are 26 lbs.

I'd say your narrow sidewalls are causing the rough ride. You might need an air ride setup lol.

I'm referring to tire and wheel weight combined. Stock 20" wheels and tires weigh 79lb I weighed them myself. Also like I said my 22's ride better than the stock 20's did. The difference in sidewall height between the 20's and 22's I have now is minimal. 275x.55=151mm 305x.45=137mm. I checked both my lower ball joints and they are both shot. They clunk up and down after 49,000ml miles. I'll update on the ride quality after I replace them.

I thought air ride made the ride shittier?

i have Rancho quick lift in front. Rs9000xl in rear. And Firestone airbags in rear with onboard air compressor. Love the ride and 24,000 miles in. Had leveling kit before and hated it. keep front at 6 and rear at 4.

Do you find the front end floating over long bumps in the road like railway tracks on the highway? I have the same setup as you and the front end looks like a 88 crown Vic bouncing down the road. I'll have to play with the adjustments on the shocks. I find that it rides rougher than the stock shocks. What do you keep your bags at when empty?

6 and 4 is too stiff for me, im currently at 4 and 2, its the stiffest settings I can stand. I'm really hoping the new ball joints are the cure. When I got my truck it was completely stock and rode like crap. In this order I replaced:

- shocks to 9000xl's (still rough but a bit more controlled)

-upper control arms to rough country (not much of a difference, maybe increased down travel a bit

-extended sway bar links with new bushings(more control still rough riding)

- new tires and rims (helped a bit with the cracks in road, but still rough and harsh riding.

Each step I took improved the ride a bit, but it still rides fairly harsh, especially when its cold. Which would make sense if its the ball joints as they will expand in the warmer weather.

Exactly, they are rough. The problem is that everyones opinion of ride quality is different. Personally I dont think a $60k truck should ride worse than my old truck. If I set the settings too low its way too bouncy, the stock shocks had better control and a softer ride than the lower settings on these shocks. If I set it one setting higher they become back jarring stiff.

Also rancho's support is horrible. I've emailed them multiple times and never received a response. I called them yesterday and after waiting on hold for almost half an hour I hung up and left a voicemail, which they said they would respond to in one business day. We will see if they actually do call me today.

If you look up reviews its common for people to have the same opinion about being too bouncy or too stiff. The problem is most likely that they used a compressed oem coil to create the lift.

I really hope my new ball joints fix the issue a bit, because I really dont want to have to mess around with changing my shocks again.

i mean it doesn't ride like a factory ride. It is lifted or leveled whatever u prefer to call it. Obviously these trucks ride great I believe when they r left stock. But I always like aftermarket tires and larger ones. Also like the truck level. So I already know by changing the truck it will ride different. All I know is it rides much better to me then a leveling kit. And when I hit those bumps it feels more control in the front then a leveling kit. I leave my airbags at 5-10 psi at all times

put truck completely back to stock. If it doesn't ride great there is something wrong with the truck. These trucks ride like a Cadillac left stock. I obviously don't like the look of stock so to level it the quick lift is the best solution. A leveling kit makes it ride a lot worse in my opinion. I tried the leveling kit and really hated it when I hit bumps. Felt like the front end was falling apart. At least the quick lift feels strong and secure when hitting bumps in my opinion. Ya it's not like stock but the closest thing I can find or will try. If u don't like the quick lift don't waste your money searching for something else unless it's stock. Just my personal opinion.

It rode like crap stock too, so I'll see how my new ball joints affect it. One thing I've also noticed is that there is no down travel at all with these ranchos, if you jack the front end of your truck up the tires come of the ground instantly, meaning that when you go over big bumps your tires are literally leaving the ground. I'm leaning toward the bilstein 6112's when they come out, or some other setup that doesnt lift using an OEM coil. The new bilstein's are supposed to be great, which make sense considering they use a low rate coil with a high damping shock.

cool let me know how those work. Ya I have owned two 2014 silverados both were stock for the first 2 weeks before I changed everything and they ride better and smoother when left at stock then my wife's 2010 Lexus RX350.

I'll be sure to post my findings with the new ball joints. I've been trying to nail down this harsh ride since the first day I bought the truck, so I'll be happier than a pig in s*** if I figure it out.

I've only had them on for a about 2000-3000km so about 2000miles. Pretty sure the ball joints were bad when I bought the truck.
