Rancho quicklift loaded

I've only had them on for a about 2000-3000km so about 2000miles. Pretty sure the ball joints were bad when I bought the truck.

Did the new upper control arms not come with new ball joints?

yes they came with upper ball joints. It's my lower ball joints that are bad.

So after using these for three months, I can give a bit of an update on them. This is trying all setting variations. I find that setting the damping lower just made it bouncier as the spring has such a high rate. While I don't mind these shocks, I feel they give about the same ride quality as 5100's did for me in the past on my last truck. I get a preloaded spring feeling.

 

 

 

Pros

1. Ride is more controlled than stock

2. Reduces body roll/ nose dive

3. Gave slightly more than 2" of lift, for a new truck it would make it sit pretty much perfectly level

4. Adjustable damping great for towing

 

Cons

1. Still harsh riding over cracks and expansion joints

2. Very harsh riding over bigger bumps/man holes/speed bumps etc.

3. When the shock extends after going over bumps etc it does so very fast and harsh (most likely due to high spring rate)

 

 

These cons are leading me to probably replace the front shocks with Bilstein 6112's, all the people on various forums that have been running them have nothing but great things to say about how they ride and how soft and plush the ride is. I will most likely keep the rear 9000xl's for the sake of being able to adjust them for towing. Don't get me wrong I don't hate the rancho's they're good shocks, I just feel they could be better, but I guess you get what you pay for. They are better than stock, and they are an upgrade over stock. I'm very critical and I over think things like this while others just say "They ride great" and go on with their life.

 

I've spent some time comparing the quicklift loaded physically to my stock struts and I've noticed they mimic a lift kit that has a coil spacer and a bottom spacer. These kits provide lift by compressing the coil in combination with using a bottom or top spacer. The quicklifts coil is compressed more than my stock strut (mimics coil spacer) as well as it is slightly longer (mimics bottom/top spacer). I think this is its major down fall.

 

The 6112's use higher damping and a lower rate coil, this gives the ultimate ride by reducing the coil bounce that I hate and increasing the work done by the shock.

 

Why don't you get rid of the 20's and put 18's on the truck or switch to a taller sidewalled tire to help your ride. I have these shocks and they ride way better than stock and also I have them set at 6 in front and 5 in back and the ride is amazing so smooth and handle bumps really well. Your problem is you only have a 55 series tire on there. Go with a more side wall. People need to understand the bigger the wheel ie: 20" 22" and up are going to ride real rough and you will feel any imperfections in the road. Anybody looking at these shocks......buy them. Oh and also my truck has never hit the bump stops at all in the front and have pretty much the same suspension travel as stock. If your stock A arms are resting on the bump stops something is wrong. My suspension has never felt over extended at all.

Here in the US we blame the ride quality on the government for bad roads, not the shocks. :D

Mine ride better now with the ball joints replaced. Doesnt jar up as much on small cracks in the road. Still too stiff and bouncy imo though.

22's do not belong on a truck sorry. You could run Kings or Fox struts and you're still going to have a shit ride. Bilsteins won't fix your problem either. The 5100's by their very nature are going to ride rougher yet.

Quicklifts + Cognito UCA's + 3" rear blocks. Also installed 9000xl's in the rear. For anyone wanting the matching Rancho rear shocks but have larger rear blocks, the RS999269 parts are the perfect dimensions for 2" of lift. The rear shocks Rancho pairs with the quicklift struts are for stock rear height or 4" of lift.

Got my new wheel set up. Went from 20" to 18". The new bf Goodrich ko2 tires. 285 65 18. Love the ride. Much better ride then my 20" wheels

Got my Quicklifts and RS9000XLs on today, took the front end up and the ride is great! There is still some rake but I think it looks fine.

I got my ranchos installed on friday. What a difference in the ride. I have the front on 6 and the rear on 5 but I think I am going to try 4 in front and 5 in back. It is kind of a pain to adjust the front because I can not see what setting they are on.

 

I had these in the rear of my last truck and I loved them.

 

Does rancho making a steering stabilizer for these?

Looks like about the same amount of rake I have. If you measure from the ground to cab at the front and back your cab is probably level.

It's counter clockwise on mine, I just checked.

 

Yes going counter clockwise all the way will line up the 1 setting pointing up.

I installed mine, and even straight out of the box, I couldn't read the numbers. On my red circle "dials", there are four points- i.e. basically 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock. One of those dials is longer than the other three. Can someone with a set of these finish this sentence for me?

 

When the longest point on the dial is turned straight up, the setting is ________.

Best settings for me have been 5 in the front and 4 in the rear.

 

Turn them completely counter clock wise and you're at setting 1.

How much you spend all total?

 

Does this setup do anything to increase payload capacity or do I still gotta consider airbags?

 

Why r people wondering about steering stabilizers? Does it feel mushy or?

    • While waiting for parts I have been working on installing the AC compressor, new accumulator, and orifice tube. Also changed out the high side ball valve (original). The orifice tube that was in there wasn't too bad. Slightly dirty, a little bit of junk, but not blocked. Glad I changed it out.   The accumulator, which should have been a 5 minute job, may have just burned $50. Put some PAG in it, wrote the date and mileage on the side, fresh o-rings and gooey'd up the threads and rings with Nylog. Got everything connected and snugged and was going to vacuum down the system, and....   My manifold gauge won't fit on the port. It's not an R12 service port. It LOOKS like an R134 service port but the diameter is a hair too large. There's a sticker on the accumulator that says it's designed to be used with R12 and R134a systems only. So it's not R1234yf. Even if I reduced the diameter slightly with a file, the shoulder on the port is too large so the quick-connect valve won't lock on. I'm stumped. It's going back, and 50/50 on if they'll give me a refund.   Also, I did a fuel pressure test.... Key on, the gauge spikes to about 60psi and quickly bleeds off, like 2psi per second. The fuel isn't going into the plenum, no smell, starts fine, so I'm guessing there's a bad check valve in the pump and the fuel is just draining back into the tank. oh, hell. But, it shouldn't be a problem, pump primes just fine and the truck starts right up. It just means I can't really ever use fuel pressure to verify a leak at the injector or intake.
    • Got this yesterday out of nowhere. Truck is a 25',6.6 gasser with 8k miles.  Only semi anomaly is that the truck had been sitting, uncranked for 6 days. Elec Stability Control showed immediately upon cranking, not while driving. No drivability issues, just the message. Battery didn't seem to be weak when cranking over.  I drove it, killed it, let it sit a few hrs with no avail.  Truck is 100% stock. No damage. 
    • This can be done.  It is not cheap and requires an instrument cluster swap with custom programming, new steering wheel with the controls on it, and a special jumper harness.   The cluster upgrade - 12.3” Digital Cluster Upgrade – 2022.5–2026 Silverado / Sierra (T1 Refresh Pickup) - WAMS   The wheel upgrade - Steering Wheel Upgrade Kit – 2022.5–2026 Silverado / Sierra (T1 Refresh Pickup) - WAMS   The column harness upgrade - 2019 - 2026 Silverado / Sierra: Steering Wheel LIN Bus Harness - Harness Dr. - DIY Done Right     The problem with doing all of this?  You pretty much can't have any programming done to your truck that involves the cluster ever again.  The dealer won't be able to program the cluster as GM's system will only pull data for the cluster the truck came with.  So it would be advised also to turn off over the air updates.   TLDR;  Should have bought an LT double cab?  You'd have a power seat, the wheel controls, the cluster, all things that you've been seeking in your various posts so far about your new WT regular cab.

    • Yes.  The 2.7 Turbomax has Active Fuel Management.  It is NOT the same as the V8s.  Totally different system.     Here is an article from GM when the 2.7 came out explaining the cylinder deactivation and the valve lift system.  Starts at the section called "SCS Valvetrain":   New Turbocharged 2.7L 4-Cylinder Engine Powers Full-Size Trucks – TechLink         This is an internet myth going around.  It was alleged that some 5.3s had this mystical 8th digit of the VIN as an "E" which somehow meant it had a new one year only 5.3 that didn't have DFM.  The writer of said article and the person that made the claim conveniently can't count because they posted the VIN.  The 8th digit was a "D" which meant its still the 5.3 with DFM.  The 9th digit of the VIN was an "E" and the 9th digit isn't the engine code.  At all.
