hey guys,

i want to keep this thread dedicated to recommended all terrain tires with a snow rating, im sure im not the only one looking for something like this.

what ones do you have experience with? good and bad info all accepted.

im thinking about getting the BFG KO2's but its such a new tire with minimal reviews.

any input appreciated.

I'd check reviews on whatever you may buy, so you get a tire that may work. The truth is, no 'all season' will go as well as a dedicated Winter tire. Here's what I do, I put two a Winter tires on the rear, leave whatever all seasons you may have on the front. No I don't corner like a Nascar driver on slippery roads, works for me.

There are plenty of 'take-off' wheels on fleabay, to match those you already have, Blizzacks too on eBay.

OBTW, I saw a nice Ford 4x4 slammed into the concrete barrier yesterday, after slipping out on an icy overpass. A few winter tire would of been a much better option for him.

Just looking over some reviews, the KO tires get good reviews, even on snow. The KO2's should be the same or better

I just slapped on a set of Goodyear Silent Armor Pro Grades on my HD, 265/70/17. They are snow rated but haven't got any snow to try them yet lol. Silent Armor is being replaced by the Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure With Kevlar. However, I think that tire is winter rated on LT sizes only. I think anything winter rated in p-metric will be a snow tire, and in LT sizes you can find all terrains that are snow rated.

Goodyear DuraTracs. All-terrain with a snow rating. I haven't had them myself but have done extensive tire research in the past when I had a Jeep. Nothing but positive reviews for those tires.

Can't remember where I read it, I think it was a few years ago when snow tires were just starting to catch on but...they said if you only have 2 snow tires, put them on the front regardless of your vehicle being FWD or RWD.

Their reasoning was that when you need them, you turn and brake better with them in the front. Acceleration is not the most important in the winter.

I bought a set of general grabber at2's today in 275/75/18. amazing reviews in winter conditions and even winter rated (they have a snowflake on the sidewall). they have slightly better snow and ice ratings than the bfg ko's and were 100 bucks less. look dang near identical. they are e rated tires so much heavier and gas mileage will suffer a little but the 1.5" bump in height will make up for that to me with looks alone.

the tire rack survey results for the stock sr-a's are downright scary. I drove on very very light ice yesterday and slid a little twice in just the few minutes I was out. that was all it took.

im fairly sure ive only run 1 winter in my life without snow tires, and it was in a rental car, i usually have winter dedicated tires on my stock rims and then run different aftermarket ones for the summer.

with the sierra i want to just jump into a 4 season A/T tire (debating on 18 or 20" still) and put some aftermarket rims on. the stock tires that came on mine are horrible on snow, ive got the 255/70/17s...smallest stock tire size and least grippy tires out of what they sold on the trucks..

those look good, they are going to be up there on my list.

good reviews on them, do you have a lift on your truck?

i threw a set of cooper sport snow tires (forget the model) on my x's awd car a few years back, man those things gripped. i was driving it back from the shop like it was dry pavement but was passing cars in ditches wondering wtf was goin on. put my foot on the ground at a stoplight and realized the road was all ice, got hit with a flash freeze after some rain.

My toyo at2s have been great in the snow, decent on ice. Dedicated snow tires would be better than an AT obviously, but I'm happy with them.

I am curious about the new nitto exo grapplers though.

those look great on the nitto site, im going to read into those a bit more.

ide like to see something that has better ice and rain ratings and sacrifice a little dry and comfort. im not all that concerned with the comfort at all, i useto drive on low pro tires on the majority of my vehicles... a 60 to 70 sidewall is massive.

also ordered 2" front only lower leveling spacers. According to the 70 page leveling thread, I will have zero issues with a 33" 275 wide with only the 2".
