I have the window sticker, which says 3.42 gears.

Can the dealer obtain the build sheet for me? Or is it the same thing as the window sticker?

I'm seeing similar issues with my truck. The poor throttle response and confused shifting is really apparent at low speeds (20 - 30 mph) when driving up hill. In my neighborhood I make a turn from one street onto another that is fairly steep. Every time I make that corner I ease the throttle to accelerate after the turn and nothing until finally it down shifts 2 gears and starts to accelerate. Then as I'm driving the truck surges (can see it watching the tachometer) slightly all the way up until I let off the throttle at the top. Initially I thought this was torque converter/pump issue so I took it in for service. Dealership had it for a while and came back and said unfortunately it was operating normally. Loaner truck I had behaved similarly as well although less pronounced since it was a 2wd and v6 (no stop/start clunking either which was nice).

At this point I really believe that it is a drivetrain software issue. I think in GM's attempt to make the trucks as fuel efficient as possible (fast upshifting, delayed downshifting, delayed throttle response, etc.) they have made it unpleasant to drive in certain situations. Love the way the truck drives on the highway, love the way it tows my boat but stop and go low speed driving leaves a lot to be desired.

I have been going through the same problems when going up the hill. When I printed these out and took it to the dealership I was told "Oh we don't bother with those blog things. If they don't come from GM then we don't look at it". REALLY?! Of course I get the standard BS answer when I take the truck in. Sorry the tech couldn't duplicate the problem here is your truck have a nice day.

Just a quick update, 2000 something miles right now, only driving it when I have too.

MPG's Last 3 tanks 14.xx MPG, 50 of the 60 miles for my round trip work commute is interstate.

Transmission has no clue what gear it wants/needs to be in, seems confused. Jerky/clunky

Throttle response is still non existent.

Big black puff of smoke at start up daily.

Drivabilty is terrible.

I have an appointment at the dealer for Monday. Hoping for the best.

Quicker update on this. Was driving to work this morning, got in left turn lane crossing traffic, hit the throttle from a roll and ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! Took a good 5 seconds before the truck moved and bucked me back when it did. Did this twice this morning!!! Swore I was gonna get T-boned on the first one. I was so mad.

Called the dealer as soon as they opened and they got me in today, had to take 3 hour hit in pay to make the appointment work, but there was no point to wait for monday as I did not, and unfortunately still do not feel comfortable/safe anymore driving this truck.

Heres what they said.

Black smoke on start-up normal - Gave me the paper on it.

Mpg complaint - updated transmission control module.

Lastly for my other complaints, as in it NOT MOVING this morning, hard shifts, searching for gears, no throttle response - "found brake pedal position sensor reading off, POSSIBLY causing my issues. test drive ok"

As im leaving, - "let it continue to break in"

Im frustrated, if breaking in a vehicle involves it not moving when the gas is pressed potentially causing an accident, im speechless.

Will update as soon as I can.

Update for today, Reset my trip meter and MPG this morning. Drove 100 miles today. 50 miles interstate, 35 miles some what highway, 15 miles in town.

Averaged right at 20mpg for the trip, on the computer. That's a drastic improvement over anything iv gotten so far. There were about half a dozen weird/erratic shifts but at least it seems were heading in the right direction here.

I will keep updates coming. Hopefully they will be good as time goes on. Fingers crossed.

Like I stated in another post, the trans will get better. Mine would shift a little hard for the first few hundred miles, but it stopped a long time ago. I can't remember exactly but it really was 1-2,000 miles roughly when it stopped. Of course if you hot rod it and then drive like normal it will shift hard for a little bit, but that's normal for an auto trans.

Your post gave me a sense of relief. I've noticed my 8 spd jerk from 2 to 1 and 1 to 2. Was starting to get concerned, but I only have 300 miles on it.

Even though the 8 speed is a new trans from GM, I haven't heard anybody mentioning any issues with it so I'm sure yours just needs to break in also. There's a few people on here that say the same as me, that it shifted hard at first and then it stopped. It's funny though, this is my first brand new truck/vehicle and when it was shifting hard sometimes I would drive it like grandpa, but around the same time that it stopped I started to drive it a little normal for me (still not nearly as bad as I used to do in my old 98). So far I haven't done anything stupid in it and I've had it since April, which is very good for me lol. When I got my 98 back in 2004 I had it in mudholes the first weekend.

I was sure hoping my next post was gonna be good news but I got 300 miles before it completely missed a gear today on the way home. So frustrating, No 2nd gear, just slipped for bit and banged into 3rd. No warning or reason it just did it under light acceleration. Still jerking and shifting crappy.

Few questions for you guys, that's had issues with there trucks and serviced at the dealer.

Will the dealer give me a loaner? They were closed before I got off, so I couldn't ask. I'm not going to miss work for this again.

Whats your real MPG this time of year, its in the 20's-30's here in central Illinois right now. This tank has 300 miles on it all interstate except 30 miles of it. 5 minute warm up in the morning. Computer is showing this tank is 17.0 average. Lifetime is 16.1 average.

How noticeable is your 4cyl mode? Mine is VERY noticeable and annoying between v-8 and 4cyl.

I got a rude awakening when I rented a Dodge Caliber several years ago when I was in Washington D.C. I tried to pull out in traffic and move into another lane. I had only a few seconds to do this because cars were coming fast from behind in the other lane. I stepped on the gas and absolutely nothing happened for about two seconds. When the stupid car finally started moving I had to slam on the brake because the car coming from behind in the adjacent lane got too close and would have slammed itno me if I had continued.

This transmission programming with these kinds of delays is downright dangerous. Fortunately I have none of that in my '09 Impala or '06 Silverado. But they both have the old 4 speed automatic.

trade it for a 6.2, the 5.3s have always been dogs and especially if your afraid to modify the truck your fighting a losing battle there. The 5.0 ford is faster then the 5.3 and the 5.7 dodge is way faster yet. Maybe you can get the dealer to install taller gears and the GM factory Borla exhaust. Its going to cost a fortune that way but you will have more performance and no affect on your warranty if you go about it that way.

Milage is low but doesn't sound to be unreasonable, let the truck break in. Throttle response, same thing. Generally the first 5k miles on any new vehicle are 'different' then what you can expect from the rest of the vehicles life. As for it just not responding when you step on the gas, thats obviously a problem.

Also sounds like your dealer is working with you to get this sorted so good luck.

5.3s are slow? You really should do a little research before you make such claims. I did that's way I have a 5.3. First big mod I did was add E85 that gets me within 40 HP and TQ. of the 6.2 I have a 342 gear and a tune, so if you have a 308 gear Im already around you. If I really cared I could go big gear and add gear venders Im really moving now. It all really would be easy being I was able to save big bucks buying a Texas package truck for a 15K savings buy not getting the 6.2. If you look just on this website there are people getting into the 13s in the 1/4 mile with very little mods with the 5.3. Slow not hardly, the 4.3 isn't even slow. I think Ill do a supercharger next with the money I saved buy not buying the 6.2.
