2014 Silverado windshield chips

Recommended Posts

I have a 2014 Silverado 1500 crew cab and have had 3 chips in my windshield. I live in the country but travel all blacktop roads. My 2010 GMC never had an chips even though I know rocks had hit it.

I've spent $100 fixing the chips and I don't want to spend anymore. I don't want to replace my windshield if it's just going to chip again.

Has anybody had any chips, a lot of chips, and abnormal amount of chips? I'm wondering if my windshield might be defective.

Change your comprehensive insurance deductible to $50. Doesn't go against you and it's pretty cheap fix for a replacement windshield.

I just got a nice chip the other day... it's like 10" long. Must have got it , on my way to work the other day , it was still dark and i didn't notice it to i got off work and drove out off the parking garage at work. Im just going to deal with it to I'm out of idea's for mods. I've 20,000 miles i new something hit me when it happened it was a loud hit. Thought the truck took it great to i got off work and it started to spread. By spring i may get a new 1.

i got a big stone chip dead center on mine from a gravel truck on the highway. that sucker was loud too, i was on the phone and the person on the line heard it.

dealership called in a glass repair guy because they said it was too bad for them to fix. they filled it, its still very visible but they said it shouldnt spread. no charge.

ill be getting new glass next summer. im fairly sure its the angle of the windshield that makes the impacts hit harder.

Yeah, they layer it back further.

Windshields chip, life goes on.

My 08 went thru three and the fourth has two stars in it.

comprehensive covers chipped windshield you got while driving? not quite sure about that...atleast my insurance (AAA), any damage done to vehicle while you are driving it is considered collision :nonod:

I have "full glass" coverage. Repairs or replacements, no charge. My last truck had 4 different windshields. My new truck has only had one stone actually make a mark, but only I can see it because I seen it hit and know where to look.

I have had hundreds of those simulated rock hits on the windshield though. That is definitely coming from the plastic around the radio knobs, I have actually felt it with my hand on it.

Bought my truck less than 48 hours ago, less than 100 miles on it and the first stone that hit it chipped the windshield. It was a very small stone, barely made a noise. . . Really disappointed something this minimal would cause a chip.

hmm.... My window was cracked the day after I bought the truck.

New GM factory window is on order. Now, I wonder if I should have not ordered a GM window.

A rock hitting your car is comprehensive, like a deer hitting your car.

Its not collision. You did not hit the rock and you did not hit the deer.

If you word it wrong... If you call your agent and say I hit a rock or I hit a deer

it is collision and goes against you.

I know this... as I said I had a rock hit my window. And I had a jack rabbit hit

my wife's car. Did $2500 damage. Insurance covered them both as comprehensive.

I am coming to the conclusion that there is something more to this, I am seeing several threads on different forums on the same thing, almost makes me think GM cheapened up the windshield to save a few bucks.

My wife has a Volvo, I had a rock hit the windshield so hard today that I ducked as I thought it was coming through, not even a scratch and that windshield is very laid back.

The cars generally have a more laid back design, and trucks more upright. Angle of deflection for the rocks usually determine chips/cracks, or ricochet. My last truck had 4 windshields put in it, and had two pock marks in the last one.
