Loud ticking

Those videos you guys are posting is a pretty damn loud tick.

Yes GDI engines have a tick however, they shouldn't be that loud. These dealer mechanics just suck so bad nowadays that they can't discern what kind of tick is normal and which one is not.

Once you can start hearing it inside your cab then I'd say you have a problem.

Mine was really loud and took the truck to the dealer a week after I bought it used. They told me it was normal. Fast forward 2 months later and the vacuum pump went out. The tick is a good bit quieter now.

That's because most of them have the tick, it must be normal, no?  Nothing for them to fix if it is normal, at least to them..

Yea, that's what I'm saying. There is a normal tick and there is a bad tick. I can tell within 5 seconds what kind of tick it is. The inherent GDI tick is easily discernable.

Speaking of GDI ticks. Has anyone heard how loud the new Honda Accord engines are? They have a louder tick than the 5.3 in my Silverado.

Mine has started the loud tap, but I have been experiencing higher than normal engine temps, I changed the factory fill oil and filter out at 800 Miles, upon inspection of filter and oil I have found metal in my filter and more than to be expected metal glitter. I believe ba lifter is on its way out. Just thinking about where all that debris has gone through the engine makes me sick. 58,000 dollars for a new truck. Now a loud tapping, and still getting higher than normal engine temps I'm not happy at all. Not even 1000 miles. Gm can have this one back.

What are your temps? Also, did you show the dealer the metal in the oil?

I haven't shown them yet, I called to have it documented , Dealer tried to get some documentation for me on the metal in filter, but came back with that because I changed the filter they couldn't document anything for me.

215-220 just driving, go up a hill and it goes to 230, towing a small trailer and it goes higher, I'm going to have to hook the scanner up again to get an actual temp with a trailer in tow.

That's a whole nother topic of what is truly synthetic and what is synthetic bled.  I am using Mobil 0w20 EP Dex1 Gen2. You can head over to Bob is the oil guy website for what's considered full synthetic vs synthetic blend. Most so called full synthetic are synthetic blends.

that sounds like a head gasket to throw on the list of problems. my truck has never left me stranded yet... but it sure has a lot of issues. i guess we're all experiencing the same things.
