Looks great, prerunner it is not. Underneath its looks anyway

Legitimate pretunners are not made to handle people being asinine.

Personally, Ford is taking their EcoBoost Technology a BIT Too Far; first they Neuter their Full Size SUVs and Shove EcoBoost V6s under the hood, then they Neuter the Rather Cool Looking Raptor with an Ecoboost V6, and they've also announced they are planning on making the 2016 Ford GT, and Suprise Suprise, they Dumped the V8 for a....You Guessed it, an ECOBOOST V6.

I say keep the ecoboost out of the Rapter, but keep it as an option for the F150s and full size cars. The ecoboost is a good idea I guess and not putting it down, but I kind of laugh that all they did was slap a turbo on a V6 and market it as some big new technology. Not really into turbos unless it's on a diesel anyways, I'm a supercharger/blower kind of guy. I like to have the choice to do that stuff, that's one of the reasons I would take a naturally aspirated V8 because it's a clean slate to do whatever I want and there's more aftermarket for V8s. Plus I've always liked that V8s have a higher performance ceiling for whatever you want to do.

I drove a 2012 ecoboost f150, and rode in a 2014 ecoboost. Thing does feel gutless taking off. But i felt the same of my friends >60 mile 2014 sierra with the 5.3 and 3.42's. I will say, i did have an ecoboost in the lane next to me take off. It had what i think was a Magnaflow on it and my god did it sound awful. Sounded like a cross between a V6 mustang and a chihuahua that was kicked in the nuts. I expected something along the lines of a 350z with a decent exhaust, but NOPE.

That new Raptor is pretty damn sweet I must say

Definitely agree! While I'm not a fan of the EcoBoost, I do love what they did with the truck. What impresses me is the effort and detail that went into it. It's definitely something they did with a lot of passion for enthusiasts. Based on this and the previous few NAIAS', if I was a domestic auto manufacturer, I'd be nervous every time Ford shows off a vehicle. They always do an extremely good job of 'winning' the show and generating a lot of buzz.

If only GM would commit to a proper special edition truck like that, instead of throwing together monochromatic colour packages that include amazing features such as chrome tow hooks, remote start, etc, etc, etc.

Why not upgrade the current V8s then? Plus isn't those #s just because of the turbo? I'd take a naturally aspirated V8 over a turbo V6 any day, More aftermarket for mods.

Fuel economy pressure. More aftermarket? That's highly debatable.

its called I don't like Paying TWO GRAND A PIECE for a Turbocharger because I was using my Turbocharged Engine in an enviroment that DESTROYS Turbochargers!

Proper air filtration negates this.

Higher performance ceiling? The supra community highly disagrees with you. I don't understand all this hate for the ecoboost.....I mean, I know this is a GM forum, but you guys gotta take off the chevy colored glasses. If you push the pedal and it plants you in your seat, does it matter what is making the 500 hp? if it's a v8, turbo v6, etc. You can throw out torque curves, but the ecoboost makes peak torque sooner than the 5.0 v8. Technology is way passed the "no replacement for displacement" argument.

Putting down more power and torque than ever is neutering?

So the Ford GT has an ecoboost v6......so what? It will outperform the supercharged 5.4.....is that bad? The Porsche 918 spyder has an electric motor. Is it neutered?

I love GM, but being objective, it's a great time to be a car fan of most makes.

I agree, the Ecoboost is a great platform (as much people like to slam it for statistical outliers when it comes to reliability) and turbocharged engines are definitely going to be dominating the market in the next few years (just look at BMW, Mercedes, Subaru, Ford, etc). My biggest issue is that I'd just miss the V8 roar in the case of the raptor, haha. Now, a turbocharged 5.0L would definitely get my attention.

I'm willing to bet we're going to get more widespread adoption of the GM TT 3.6L anyhow, and last time I drove one in the CTS Vsport with the 8 Speed, I was EXTREMELY impressed.

If I remember correctly, a 2JZ engine can only got up to 8-900 HP. A V8 simply can handle more power. Even if you talk about just the block. I have nothing against the ecoboost, my only problem is what they're starting to put them in. And yes I'm pretty damn sure there's more aftermarket products for V8s than V6s, especially with trucks.

Supra is a horrible example. 800 HP or more and they still run double digit ETs.

When the eco boost can handle the 100 HP tune for 100k miles I could be driving one. All that HP for less than a grand, hard to beat if it can handle it, Im not convinced yet. Im not a Ford hater, right now I like GM better that can change.

between this and the new ram rebel (not quite as capable as the raptor, but probably more what most people will use), GM needs to get a silverado in this area.
