Great or Normal Deal? 2014 Sierra SLT 4x4

as long as you're happy, that's all that matters.

I was looking at some used trucks last spring, mainly SLT All-Terrain models with 10k or less miles. They were priced around $40 to $42k and the dealers wouldn't budge much off them. They were all early build trucks so I was afraid of having problems and it wasn't easy to test drive them because most were 2 or 3 hundred miles away. (Comparable new SLT All-Terrains were around $45k here and they wouldn't budge off those prices either - not everyone can get Laura GMC type pricing in their market)

The more I researched the truck, I found that the SLE All-Terrain turned out to be a good buy, so I finally ended up buying one in August at a local dealer near me. Got $8k off the sticker price of $48k msrp and an extra $1500 more on my trade vs. other dealer offered, so I felt the deal was good to me. Leather would have been nice but even the SLT All-Terrain doesn't have the Cooled seat feature, so I hate when leather is hot in the summertime and your back starts sweating. Also the SLT's heated steering wheel and front parking sensors would be nice too, but no big deal thus far without them. I have the All-Terrain 20's, step bars, and then I added the factory navigation too. I also added the GM painted fender flares and mud guards.

Ehh your talking 15s you bought a 14. probably some new 14s out there somewhere, then factor in waiting another 3-5 months for a 15 to get old in the tooth on the lot. Just my opinion. Wouldnt be paying almost 40 for used when I could get new for close to the same price.

Well if you can help me out and find a new (either 2014 or 2015) GMC Sierra SLT 4x4 with the same features for the same price range ill be glad to stop this transaction and buy that one hands down. It was a cooperate truck for GM, not a imma beat it up before i trade it in person. $50,500 truck for 36k out the door. Its also certified so has additional warranties on top of normal.

Package added to 4x4 SLT model are

SLT Preferred Package

-header steering wheel

-power sliding rear window

Driver Alert Package

-front and rear park assist

-lane departure warning

-forward collision alert

-safety alert seat

Sunroof

Audio System 8" w/ Navigation

6" Chrome assist steps

Heated and cooled seats (driver and front)

Bose audio system

Seats, Front full feature leather appointed buckets

You asked I gave my opinion. If the deal works for you go for it. Im just saying you can get 8k off or more of a truck, so your taling maybe 4-6k more getting a new truck which makes sense to me. And I guess if your so set on every option that truck has and cant live without, then fine. But things like floor mats, step bars etc, you can acquire after the fact for a fraction of the cost. But its on you. Not to many people in here agreeing that is a good deal. I know from a psychological stand point everybody has to feel that they got a good deal on their truck, which this is not a good deal. Not a bad deal. Just not good.

Id rather buy a certified car vs non as their is a bonus with the free maintence. But in general its not really adding to the longevity of the vehicles original warranty. So Im not so sure on such a new used vehicle such as this your really gaining a huge advantage.

No I agree, I was just saying from when I was shopping around and looking i could find one to compare to that for around that price. Yeah getting a new one is a good feeling but just to loose all that value when u drive off isn't a good feeling to me. As far as features, I don't need them all, but I would like all I can get for the best price. Even if it is a simple bed mat etc. Im planning to keep it after I pay it off so i rather have it all then want t later and pay more to add you know.

Thats true, its better to have the extended warranties and maintenance. Ill take all that free lol, better then paying 60 bucks a oil change and how ever much for tire rotations etc..

Another idea is to step down your expectations. find a truck thats orginally priced for 40 and probably pay 32 for it. save 4 grand and be in a new truck. But its all in what you want.

Another good idea, IF u can get what u want,

I was looking at 12/13's slt's under 20k for 32/34k denali at 36k, I was willing to give a bit, but had to have a crew, full console, only options I considered giving up were moon roof and leather, I was having a hard time with leather tho I like leather, but once I got in a SLE all terrain and realized it still had heated seats I was OK with it, maybe at some point I'll spend 1200 at a local shop who does it and have leather put in, but to be honest its so comfy the way it is, plus to get a leather SLT now they make buy so much more, it pizzes me off, at the end of the day I think I would have spent 32k on a used SLT or denali, so for a extra 4k I went new, right decision? Ask me after 100k and I'll let ya know,

I buy low and I mean low and then sell high. I have somethings that I will not do without as in 4x4 and some other functional things, then I have things if they are in the budget so be it, if not oh well. I dont think I keep the things long either. Typically my truck is an LT or XLT in ford and is leather and maybe one option away from being the LTZ or Lariat. Last ford I had was literally leather away from the lariat but not having leather and the stickers saved me 15k bucks.

I bought a new 2014 all terrain from Laura for 32965 so it was 36900 out the door. not everyone wants to jump thru hoops fly there and ship it or drive it home etc..... but being that where I live in expensive markupville CALIFORNIA the same truck is going for 47,210 LOL. I saved enough to work with laura. Do your homework and save big is what im sayin

Is blows my mind that mu sle crew with a couple options is listed at $49,500 in canada.

I swear, i may sell my truck to my buddy in 2 yrs and go buy a USA SLT.

Sounds like a good price to me... You've got every bell and whistle I've got on my 15 Sierra Denali with the exception of the spray in liner and 4WD and you're 10K cheaper! Next time flex that USAA muscle and use their car buying program, usually saves between $700-4300, if you currently own a GM you get a loyalty discount 1K, and there's a recent car show, you get discounts for that too 1K... But as long as you LOVE it, its a perfect deal. Congrats!

    • Common failure.  You need to replace the fuel door housing.   The painted cover transfers over to the new housing.  To remove the old one there is 4 spots where you poke the plastic to release it.
    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?
